I used my stimulus money to buy some tooling for my machine shop. I hope it doesn't offend anyone. I did make sure it was all made in the USA. I got a Dumont Minute Man broach set, a Craftsman toolbox for lathe and mill tooling and a Kurt Sidewinder Vise for the mill. The new Kurt vise attaches to the horizontal vise on the table and gives you a vertical work holding vise. Been wanting one of these for a long time. I could have used this many times in the past. It is designed to be bolted to any of the Kurt 6 or 8 inch vises but mine is not a Kurt vise so I have to do some minor drilling and threading to the back of my existing vise as well as make a different base plate for the outboard end. Thanks Paul

Good for you, I try to anyway but lately trying to buy as much made in USA as possible.

Those minute man broach sets last forever if your nice to them. I replaced our set at work last year, box had written on it 1971. I assume some was replaced but most of it was probably original.

Looks like the larger sidewinder? We have both sizes, the larger is definitely more versatile. I'll give you a tip; if you only need it for a quick light duty job, you can clamp it in the vise jaws instead of bolting it to the back. We end up doing this most of the time.

Woody, I hear you on that. Luckily my kids are way past the college stage and have kids of there own.
Kapster I have always tried to buy USA as well. It is the larger one and I can't believe how rigid it is all bolted down. Kurt is all quality. I just bought an old Greenerd #4 arbor press 7 ton machine. I am going to restore it use it for broaching, bearings etc. I have a 50 ton press I made but doesn't have the control the arbor press does. I am going to do a thread on the restoration soon. thanks Paul

Is your 50 ton hydraulic pump driven or manual? I tell ya the ticket for broaching, we have a homemade press with a 18ish inch tie rod cylinder and hydraulic pump. A decent speed and the constant movement make it nice for broaching. For smaller sizes the arbor presses work great.

The 50 ton I made is electric/hydraulic. I posted kind of a build thread on it here several years ago. Paul

Nice haul. Every now and then the government has to throw you a bone for all the taxes you have been paying. If it is a handout that everyone is entitled to and you don't have any bills or debt to pay, I don't see anything wrong with spending it on improving your life.

Its not a bone. Its borrowed money your kids will have to pay.
