Snap on SOEXM710 FLANK DRIVE PLUS

The finish and the feel on these wrenches is superb. Wish I bought these much earlier.

I just picked up a gently used set like yours for $150 yesterday. The 10mm and 19mm were missing so I ordered them from snap on. Chrome is slightly scratched but they look like they've hardly been used. Big step up from my craftsman raised panels.

The Flank Drive Plus is what made me a believer in Snap On wrenches!!! I have standards and metrics now and am working on buying up to 25mm and 1 5/8 in the FDP.

CountryRoad- Just curious what you are doing that you would get the FDP in anything over 1 1/4? Not trying to be the know it all police or anything but if I found myself in the situation where I'm saying "Man this 1 5/8 wrench just keeps slipping, I need a FDP" then I am using the wrong tool for the job. Wrenches that big are for snugging flanged connections or holding an opposing nut while your co-worker hangs off the 3/4 or 1 inch dr. ratchet. You can't exert the force needed (by hand) to properly tighten a 1 inch plus bolt with a combo wrench and its not very safe to try and loosen one that way either. Mabey you have a specific task where these are needed but a piece of advise from one wrench turner to another and working industrial maintenance for 12 years FDP that size is not practical IMO. If you are looking for large wrenches the thick handled round style or half round style from Wright are far more comfortable than the I-Beam handle from Snappy or anybody else for that matter and cheaper! End Rant :lol_hitti

there are times when the FDP is the one and only way to go. then there are other times that they mangle a fastener so badly that i have to replace it. FDP and regular wrenches will both ruin a tight fastener. the difference... FDP will get the fastener undone. Double-edged sword.

My answer is pretty simple, I live on a farm. My bodyshop is on the farm. There are some days that albeit I do not like to, I am forced to work on something mechanical that is huge or junk. I also live 15 miles from town so I am in the middle of nowhere and have no neighbors that I go out of my way to communicate with for the simple fact they are a$$holes. Nor do I have employees at my shop due to the fact nobody can do anything I want done, how I want done because I am an a$$hole about the work that comes out of my shop, it has to be right or it won't leave and I hate redoing something my sorry employee has tried to cobble while I was gone. What I am getting at is I have K/D wrenches up to 2 5/8 that mainly lay around and take up space, but when you need them....... Dang it is so nice to have it and not have to wait until Monday or chase someone down to borrow a tool, I hate borrowing anything so what it all boils down to is if I think I ever might need something, I'll go ahead and buy it/ have it verses being stuck and not having it. It's a case of I want it, so I'll have it, that is the good part of being single and not having kids to worry about. Oh and BTW while I can agree that wrenches of that size are mainly for snugging, I am sure you have run into situations where some idiot has slightly rounded off fasteners, or tightened something wwwaaaayyyyy too tight, I think they would be the berries for loosening hydraulic fittings that have been tightened too tight and are in a screwed up area.

Edit: To the OP, those are some very nice wrenches, I was responding below to another poster.

I'll second the Wright for larger sizes... they just can't be beat on price or comfort, period.

Furthermore, SO's prices are pretty reasonable on smaller sizes... but once you go larger, they just get absurd.

For instance, a 1-1/4 Snap on is $107, the same Wright is $33. There's no way in hell that SO is stronger than the Wright. Wright's wrenches are overbuilt specifically to be heavily abused in an industrial setting. Wright's "WrightGrip" is every bit as good as flank drive plus, I've used both.

If you're going for sheer finish quality and "shinyness" and most expensive, then the SO wins.
