Well as many of you know from my previous thread, I have been having issues with the detents in my Craftsman Ball Bearing Box (non Grip Latch). I solved this issue today with 6 dollars in magnets from Northern Tool! I removed the stock rubber detents/bumpers from the slides, and attached 3 stacked magnets in two spots on the back of each drawer! No more yanking to open or slamming drawers shut! The boxes stay closed yet are easy to open! I ended up supergluing the magnets together as they were making noises on occasion from attempting to disconnect from one another! This is way cheaper than buying a new box!:bounce:

Charging my camera battery up right now and I will pull a couple of drawers and snap a few photos tomorrow morning and post them ASAP. Glad to see some interest in this project!

I dont know why I never thought of that. The drawer on my tool cart wont stay closed either. I even bought new slides and they lasted less than 6 months. I finally resorted to just keeping the key in it and locking it when I wanted it to stay shut. I should of just hot glued one of the many magnets stuck to my toolbox onto the back of the drawer

Pictures as Requested. Sorry about the blurry images but I can't get my camera to focus properly!

These are the Magnets Stacked 3 high and glued together and glued to the back of the drawer. The gluing possibly could have not been required if I maybe used Neodymium (Rare Earth) magnets.

These are the slides in my top chest. The tabs sticking up had the rubber detents on them so I just pried them off with a screwdriver or by hand. Sorry about the blurry images but you get the point!

Wide angle shot of magnets on both sides of the Drawer! Hope this helps!

I did glue them together and to the drawer, as when I pulled the drawers open with some force or acceleration, the magnets would separate from one another or the drawer just enough to make a snapping noise which was a little annoying to me. As a note it took about 5 magnets on the bottom drawers to reach the back of the box. This could possibly be fixed with a shim of sorts or a thicker magnet. Because I am semi cheap I was happy with the results of my $5.99 51 magnet pack from Northern. Total money invested in this project was about 10 dollars.

Thank you for sharing, I will be doing this soon. I have always hated the detents on my box. I normally open it past then when I start on something and dont close them all the way untill I am done. This will take care of this lil problem :)

All the pictures are gone! Anyone have pics or video on this anymore??
yeah sadly this happens a lot. The OP & other die hards using 3rd party image sites with all the spam and other problems..
This is because GJ members don't or cant attach images using the paper clip icon under [Go Advanced ] radio button below. This method stores the photo as long as GJ stays open for business.
