Throwing a lifeline here as you guys have got me back on track before. Redoing a bathroom. Going to move the door over to the right in the first picture over to the first old stud. Presently have a four inch box on the outside. With the door move I won’t have room on the outside due to trim. Next bay over is only 3.5 inches. Next one over I feel is too far. Would like to keep 4 inch box as I use motion activated switch and I have not seen those in a combo switch. Need the other for fan.
What would you do? Using tile on the inside and thinking of a different molding and putting box on the inside in same location. Only issue is transition to door.

I would cut/chisel out that badd *** stud so a box would fit

Perfect. Seems I have writers block with things like this. Taking a new look at that stud I’m not even sure why it’s there. Not a structural wall so will probably just take it out completely. Thanks for the advice guys

I would take a close look at the bottom of those studs. One seems to land on a plate and be sistered to a stub and the other seems to go through the floor to land on what? Study things a bit before knocking out the wrong stud.

Thanks I will take a look up in the ceiling bay to see what is going on before doing anything. I have no idea why half of this stuff was done. Might just temp support ceiling and start from scratch.
