BP 4 post lift questions

After looking at my requirements and all the lifts out there I have narrowed the search to the BP HD-9XW or the Direct Lift Pro Park 9 Plus.

I went to the ALI web site to check certification. The BP HD-9ST and the HD-9 are on the list as certified and the Direct PP9+ is on the lift as certified.

The HD9Xw is not on the certified list. However I have seen the HD-9XW lift with data tag and cert label. Does anyone know what the situation there is?

I have spoken with the distributor with the pro park 9 + in stock but they are the non certified units, IE no tag.

With respect to unloading these units from the truck. I was able to get shipping from door to door. The truck will come to my garage.Even with this extra cost service I suspect that unloading will be a challenge due to the length of the beast. I have a 2 ton loader with a 7 foot bucket. If the truck had a lift gate which it does not I could put one end in the bucket and drag it out until the other end was on the lift and get it to the ground. But this is too much to ask. Does anyone have any words of wisdom as how to unload one of these and survive the experience?

i was in the same boat as you when i got my lift.... to have to drag it out of the back of the truck.. lucky for me my neighbor has a forklift and a flatbed car hauler.... i opted to go pick it up at the truck terminal, then take my time getting it off and into the shop.... i still had to drag it to the back of the trailer and set one end on the ground then go around to the middle to pick it up...
good luck on what ever way you have to do it.....

RGaz - I'm not sure what to tell you here. Unless you have a forklift at home, I don't see how you can safely take a lift out of a semi trailer without scratching it all up as you drag it out. Just taking the ends off and dissassembling the "package" took me a good hour or so, which is time you won't be given by a truck driver that's in a hurry to move on to his next stop. If it's possible to have it delivered to a close by terminal, I'd opt for that instead. Then go to U-Haul and pay the $29.99 for a tandem trailer rental. This way your lift gets safely delivered to a terminal where it is offloaded with a forklift, which is also then used later on to carefully put your new lift on your trailer. When you get it home, you can then take your time to get everything apart using an engine hoist for the heavy ramps.

The only thing that might work here is if they can deliver it to you in a flat bed trailer. Call BendPak and ask them if your lift can be placed on a flat bed trailer. You might just need to wait until they have one scheduled to come out your way (and wait until the flatbed is full of lifts). That would then allow you to safely put a chain around your bucket and around both ends of your lift. Do note that the ends are actually made of 2" angle iron on which the ramps are bolted on to. We're talking about a lot of weight here so make sure you use really big chains and/or straps. Short of that, I really don't know how else to safely take it out of an enclosed trailer.

Junkman told me that he had his first lift delivered to a lumberyard and then they brought it out to his house and set it in front of his garage. Call around, maybe you can find a real lumberyard that's willing to do this for you for a small fee.

Let us know what happens here. Best of luck and congrats on your choice of lift. I'm a big BendPak fan too and have an HD9-B (normal height extra wide) with an RJ45 rolling air jack tray, a JP-6 jacking tray, and a caster kit. You'll absolutely love your new lift.

I had it delivered to the local lumber yard, and they delivered it to my home on the boom truck. The HD9XW weighs over 2200 pounds if I remember correctly. There is no way that you can take that off the truck, even if it is a flat bed with your tractor, unless your tractor has a backhoe to counter balance the weight. It cost me $100 to have it delivered by the lumber yard, and it was well worth the money. Also, if you have it dropped off, make sure to put some 4" thick wood under the bundle. It will make it easier to take the end frames off when unpacking.
As for the certification, the Bend Pak HD9XW isn't ALA certified, however, the HD9 is. They are both the same design, but the XW has the longer ramps. It is made to the same exacting manufacturing standards as the rest of the HD series lifts. I believe that it is a matter of costs involved in having every model of lift certified. My original HD 9 was a certified lift, and there is no difference between it and the XW except for the length. I wouldn't let the certification become an issue. Greg Smith Equipment sells both the Pro Park and Bend Pak brands, so you might want to contact them for the exact specification for each. I have dealt with Greg Smith, and they are a good supplier, and I have had excellent service from Bend Pak with the two Bend Pak lifts that I have purchased. I don't believe that the Pro Park has the same hight and length as the Bend Pak units..

With a dry weight of about 2,200 lbs., the Pro Park 9 Plus is perhaps the most heavy duty portable lift on the market. The Pro Park 9 Plus comes with a free set of polyurethane casters, 3 drip trays, and a jack tray. Designed with a runway length of 15' 6" and "drive-under" clearance of 6' 8" , the Pro Park 9 Plus will allow most trucks to be stored on both the top and bottom of this lift.

I would DEFINITELY have it delivered if you can.

I had mine delivered to my garage, where I had a few buddies on hand. It took me 5 minutes to unbolt the package (with my impact wrench) and it was off the truck in another 10 minutes. Yes it got a couple scratches - for Sh!t sake - It's a LIFT!! (and it comes with a can of paint if you're worried about it...)

Oh, mine is the BP9XTW, whcih is certified. Strange that JUNK says the 9XW isn't, but the XTW is????? No matter, they are all capable of being certified as they are all designed the same.

TNX for all the feedback Gents!

The HD9XW is ordered and on the way!

I can tell this is going to be a challenge doing the unloading.

I considered unpacking in the truck and taking it out piecemeal. However 1HR to get it unpacked and the driver will go crazy.

Junkman,My tractor is a skid loader, weighs >8000 Lbs, has a 2500' bucket rating. The tip over load is rated @ 5000 lbs. I do not think it will be an issue however that would be a pretty bad situation. I am sure that I have lifted a ton with it before. If the bucket is high it is a bigger issue particularly if moving. But static??? Very good point however!

The lift will delivered in a 26' box to my garage. I was thinking that I could drag it out far enough with the tractor / loader such I could then approach the lift and place the bucket over it. Then either with chains, nylon covered cable or strap attach to the end of the bucket.

Does anyone know appx. what the dimensions of the packaged unit as shipped are?

The package consists of one ramp bolted to the bottom and the other bolted to the top with the rest of the lift (i.e. pump, hydraulics lines, cables, etc.) bundled in between. The bottom most ramp is a good 3-4" off the bottom so there's enough room for a forklift to get up underneath the whole thing. In your case, I believe your ramps are 16' long so your package should be 16' X 24" by 30" (roughly something like that). The more I think about it, maybe you could get the whole thing out really slowly, keeping it nice and level the whole time, and then ever so gently lower it down until the one end comes to rest on the 2" angle iron braces on one corner. Then go put a chain on the other end and lift it up while the semi trailer pulls away. Then you would just let it down. The only thing about this is that you have to be very careful when you pull the package out since if you pull it out too fast it will come crashing down and you could damage the lift.

How about just renting a forklift? Call around. This might not be that expensive. Go visit a couple of warehouses and ask them how much it would cost to bring it out to your house for the quick 15 minutes that it'll take to offload it. Definitely worth a try.

TNX Ovilla. I think I may have an answer to the challenge. One of my buds owns the local U-Haul. He also has a number of tow trucks of various sizes. I am off to see him tomorrow. I can probably pull it out straped to my bucket and he can put the hoist on it and we can lower it on blocks together. I see a 914 on your post. I had a number of 914's in the 70's.One of my buds back in Mass, had a silver 914-6 with twin turbos. In its day the thing was a real monster.

You will enjoy your lift. Congrats.
I had the same issues you are having with my 9XW. I had the option to use a neighbors lift to off load the truck at my house, but I opted to rent a 16' trailer. I tried to see if the shipping company could sent it out with a cherry picker per Junkmans suggestions but it was not available.
I picked it up at the terminal that was approx 40 miles away. the package was the full length of the trailer, and one of the pillers was outside of the package on its own. Unsure why this was, but not a big deal.
I looked the package over as best I could when I picked it up. No issues just some minor scratches. As mentioned paint comes with it.
I started a thread addressing the many uses for an engine lift. This helped out tremendously. My wife helped me off load it from the trailer piece by piece and I was able to take my time inside out of the elements.
If I remember correctly the weight of the package (not including the rolling dollies) was approx 1800#.
My lift does have some literature on the power piller, but I can not remember if it is one of the ones you mentioned. I have used mine with a 7400# truck, 7000# truck, and a 7000# suv with no issues. Just make sure to visually check the locks before you go under.
