Wow, just read thru the 29 pages between yesterday and today and I can't believe I had never seen this thread. Joe, you have crazy talent! Congrats on the new building. I will have to cruise over and check it out.

I also just finished reading these 29 pages. VERY nice work. I can only dream....,at 68 yo, I'd better hurry with my dreams. After seeing your work on your rides I'm going to walk down to the shop, spit on my impala, and set a match to it. And I will follow your '35 station remodel. You do very nice work.

rburke65, now why would you want to do that? This is a great site for help, advice and motivation.

Nothing new to show...it hasn't been touched in 4 months. Work on the building is taking every free second of time I have. Should have the renovations done by early summer then I'll get back to work on the F100

I would like to see the shop restoration. Do you have any pictures or a thread on garagejournal for it?

Mike.

A thread on it is in the garage gallery under 1935 Gas Station Resurrection. Link is in my signature. The Facebook page can be found by searching Perry Sinclair Station

I first found your gas station build, and was amazed at your speed and talent. Then today I decided to check out your other threads. More beautiful work. You remind me of my uncle, who ran an auto repair/bodyshop. You share his attention to detail. His personal projects often took years, however. While reading this thread, I kept glancing at the date of the post. Knowing when your gas station post started, and the speed that you are working through it, I knew there was no way that you were working both projects at once. I kept hoping, as I read, that this one get finished before the shop started. Alas, that was not to be. The reason that I am posting this long ramble is to compliment you on your fine work and to subscribe so I know when you pick this project up again.

I already showed these pics in the Gas Station Resurrection thread. but I think its fitting to post them in this thread too. I purchased two old 1950's era Wayne 505 gas pumps to display in front of my building. I recently restored them in Sinclair colors. I started with one very original unmolested Phillips 66 pump from the southwest and a not so unmolested Texaco pump that originally came from a station in a town about 20 miles away.

First job was to break into them since I didn't have keys to either one of the pumps. After that was to get them torn down to a bare shell and remove all the HEAVY unnecessary internals.

Next all the panels and the inner frames were media blasted

All the outer panels were further cleaned up with a 3m bristle disc, body worked, etch primed and finished up with a 2k build primer.

The inner frames I epoxy primed them, then applied 3 coats of a satin single stage implement paint.

After the topcoat was applied

Side panels and tops ready for paint. On all the outer panels I used PPG Deltron DBC basecoat with DCU2002 clearcoat. A sealer coat was applied on all the parts before the applying the base.

Since I had no plans of color sanding these parts I only applied two wet coats of clear.

The doors and upper filler panels were done in white.

Reassembly

I had a concrete pad poured to place pumps on. It is approximately the same location as the pumps were originally when this building was a working service station.

Awesome job Joe! I had to chuckle a little when you said no plans for color sanding, they look mirror finished as is. It looks as though you have several projects waiting behind the shop and truck.

Back to working on the F100 a bit. First project on the list was get rid of the tailgate chains and smooth out the tailgate where they used to latch and pin the chain. Picked up polished stainless links and latches from mid-fifties.

Alright back to posting. Great job by the way on the restoration of your gas station, read both the current shop projects and the gas station resurrection. Outstanding work in both. I have been remodeling my shop also and borrowed a few of your ideas.

Back in the shop working on a few things. Finished up the F100 tail gate project and got the 1950 Pontiac tail lights fit and mounted.

Currently working on putting new floors in the Galaxie wagon. I bought repair panels for the rear footwells, the rest I am making myself. I knew the floors were soft, but didn't think they were quite as bad as they are. Somebody done a decent cover up. They laid fiberglass matt down first, with galvanized tin on top of that and sheet metal on top of all in that in the front. All undercoated for corrosion protection of course. For as much trouble as they went through they could have just done it right.

Thankfully all the cross braces are solid as well as the inner rockers.

Some people just don't have the knowledge or experience to do pans properly. I'm guilty of some bad patch jobs in my youth. Luckily, I corrected the error in my ways.

Joe,

My fan and setup worked out okay! Thanks for answering all my questions. Booth is not complete but I just grabbed some cheap filters to try it out. They loaded up pretty quick (sprayed a quart and half of enamel), gonna get some deeper regular booth filters the next go around and see how they do.

Anyhow thanks for all the input, really appreciate it!

Seeing your galaxy floor reminds me of one of my bus floors. Had two layers of **** carpet and the stock rubber floor mat.

If anybody is interested, I have began to post some updates on projects in the gas station thread. Its easier to just keep one thread up to date for me. Currently working on a 53 Ford Customline and the F100. Link is in my sig.
