Bracing Gable End Trusses?

Hi All

Will be building 24'x22' detached garage soon (just submitted permit application). (Chicago BTW)

I'm using 4/12 over 2/12 scissor trusses and regular gable end truss for end. Been reading about requirement to balloon frame and walls or brace gable ends. I get this for a house, but is it necessary for a 24' wide garage. It will be sheathed with 1/2 inch CDX ply

Also is there a reason (other than making it easier to attach sheathing) not to use a common truss instead of gable end truss?

Am I over-thinking it?

Regards

Mark

Your truss supplier can send you gable end trusses with details on how to brace them. You will install 45 degree bracing to the gable up in the "attic" of the scissor truss. The scissor trusses may also have lateral bracing on them.

Follow the manufacturer's engineering/bracing detail.
That's what your inspector will be looking at.

the gable end trusses are also made to give you nailers for your sheathing

Engineers and designers make end gable more heavily reinforced to resist wind loads against end of house. Part of reason for extending a California corner from the gable across several truss bottoms and using that as a plate for a 45 angle brace up to top of gable.

Ah, I see. Thanks
