Check the prices and availabilty of the nails. Most of the nail gun makers make the majority of their profit on the nails/brads. (Kind of like cheap inkjet printers with expensive ink cartridges.)

I got a used Bostich 125 off of ebay for $10 with $10 shipping. I don't use brad nailers often so I didn't want to spend a lot of money. But at the very least I wanted a name brand nailer. Check Ebay to see if you can get a deal on either the Hitachi or Porter cable. But from experience, the porter cable nail guns are top notch and are the tool of choice for the general contractors I know.

I have had the BN200A for several years and it has worked often & flawlessly.

However, B&D has recently "re-positioned" the P-C line within their empire and it has been demoted. I mention this because your link is for the BN200B - the newer model - and I have had no experience with any P-C product since the change. I also note that the first picture in the Amazon link is of the old model, while the second is of the newer one...

If you are willing to go the factory reconditioned route, check out www.reconditionedsales.com as they are the only licensed hitachi rebuilder around. I got my finish gun from them on sale for a really good price. Right now they have the same nailer on sale for 35 bucks. Hitachi is one of the best in the business when it comes to nail guns!

You really can't go wrong with a Hitachi or PC. If you want to go low buck, the stuff from HF will amaze you. My brad nailer is a brand called AIRY. Got it at a Costco like 15 years ago and it gets used every day. What's not covered in paint, stain and caulk is rusted and the thing won't quit. I had read about it in a trade magazine at the time and they really liked it, especially for a $20 tool. I know round here that there are these service centers for the tool manufacturers that sell recon units for short money, with a warranty, you may want to look into that too. With a brad nailer, you have many manufacturers and brand X brads to choose from, typically all you need is to check that the gauge and the length are correct for your gun. Finish guns and framing nailers usually have specific nails by manufacturer, so buying a tool that is easy to get consumables for it important in that case.

I agree with what he said. Hitachi nailers are considered the best, and Reconditioned Sales has the best prices on the recon units, if they have it in stock.

If you want to save some money, the Campbell Hausfeld nailers are a good nailer for the price, and the recon units start at only $13.99.

I just picked up a PC BN125A today for $30 out the door at a pawn shop. It is in excellent shape and I think I got a decent deal.

My only concern looking back is whether I should have bought a gun that uses longer than 1 1/4" brads? What do you guys think, am I going to really need longer than that, especially since I have a cordless Paslode finish nailer?

Likely not. I'm glad my brad nailer goes to 2", but you should be OK given you have a finish nailer...
