Brain fade - what is it called?

It's not a cotter key, is it? For the life of me, I can't remember the exact, specific name of this type of key/pin/keeper thing.

I had two of them back out of their pins on my crane today, after the crane was serviced last Friday. So I am writing up a little something for the safety committee.

I always called them hitch pins.I've seen them called hair pins or bridge pins.

I initially thought it was a hitch pin, also. But I think the actual hitch pin is what this gizmo goes through. So maybe hitch pin clip is the actual name.

I do believe it's called a spring clip.

That's a hair pin

The hitch pin is the other half - the pin with the handle that accepts the hair pin

Well, I just finished typing up my suggestion to the safety committee and I called it a hitch pin clip. It may well be known by other names, but when I googled "hitch pin clip" and looked at the images, almost every pic displayed was of the same type of clip that I posted in my initial post.

It's NOT a hitch pin clip because it's not exclusively used on hitch pins... it can be also used to secture clevis pins.. and lots of other stuff

Hitch pin clip is a correct name for that and several other style clips...the ones you show are "bridge clip" style hitch pin clips

Well just to confuse things even more we in the UK call them 'R' clips.

Logical when you look at them.
