I have a homeline RC816F200SL combination meter box that has a 200 amp meter and 200 amp service disconnect with feed thru lugs. My house is connected to the feed thru lugs. The panel has qty 8 single pole plug on spaces for breakers. Homeline has a 200 amp breaker available as well as a 225 amp rated sub feed lug. Breaker is part number HOM2200BB and the lug is HOML2225. Pricing that I have found online has the sub feed lug costing more than the 200 amp breaker. I want to run 200 amp service to my shop. I will install a 200 amp load center with service disconnect at the shop. Does anybody have any opinions on the best way to do this with the setup I have? Thanks for the help.

Use the breaker. you really want a separate disconnect for the garage. Hom2200bb square D Homeline 200 amp plug on circuit breaker hom2200

P.S. You are crazy to think you need that much power in your garage. Wait till you price out the cable !!!

Pictures are worth a thousand words.

I dont have any pictures, but could take some. Meter combo box is mounted to pole with transformer about 40' from house and 100' from shop. House is old and small, with all new electric. 200 amp load center with disconnect in basement. Shop will be built next month. Trying to figure all costs involved. Thanks.

Some people say I am crazy. Shop is 48 x72 with 48 x 24 loft. Loft will have 9' ceilings, and could become more than storage. Who knows what I will bring home and plug in. 200 amps for this building seems reasonable to me. Thanks for the input.

What loads do u have in the garage?

Heat in the shop will be radiant heat from nat gas, so no big load with that. Typical welders, large air compressor, etc. Might install forced air and ac for the loft. I want to be ready for the unknown. Thanks.

You can also make a ****** crayon sketch on a napkin, then take a picture of THAT and post it. Worth only 990 words, but def helps

my efforts:

First, what you have- main lugs to a sub for the hosue with a main breaker on that panel?

attachment.php

Next is your option to use a 200 Amp bolt on breaker to panel a 200A distribution sub-panel in the shop

attachment.php

The last it the 2nd option- use a bolton kit to add main lugs to send a 200AM line to a subpanel in the shop that would have an integrated disconnect on that panel

attachment.php

Confirm if that is the question.

(BTW, super easy- scrap paper, cell phone- email it to the computer )

You understood me correctly, except maybe one thing. For the first option with the breaker at the meter box, I would still have a main disconnect in the shop sub-panel. Thanks for your input.
