Hi,
I am a new member from Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Canada.
I am in the process of selecting a new 2 post hoist and was wondering if anybody had some recommendations on which ones to consider or which ones to stay away from.
My plan is to purchase a 9000 to 10,000 pound capacity 2 post symmetrical hoist. My drawback is a 12 foot ceiling height.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Chief: here's a couple threads of member's that have put this Max Jax lift in their garages and a video from Max Jax that might work for your garage.

Woody's garage is in Ontario also and here's the link

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=263351&highlight=woody's

here's a basement garage with 8 foot ceilings with the same Max Jax lift

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=265178&highlight=madhatter

and here's the Max Jax video if you are interested and as you can see you can mount it permanently like the guy's did in their garages or make it mobile like the one in the video and maybe even use it in your driveway.

i don't know if it's the best for your situation, but it looks like an option.

by the way welcome to our forum and hope you stick around. any pictures to share of your garage or shop since this is your thread and maybe other members will have some ideas

Hi,
Thanks for the information and the welcomes.
I have plenty of ceiling height for a normal 9000 to 10,000 pound 2 post hoist, what I was looking for was some information or a comparison done by Industry on which ones are the best for your buck and the best for safety. I have done some research and reading and have found that many of the "offshore" units being sold are not very safe and vastly over-rated as to what they can safely lift. So I am simply looking for what is the safest and best buy for the money. For example Bendpak, Atlas, Mohawk etc.
Thanks.

Chief: plenty of reading for you to do on those i'm guessing and if you can't find the answers you are looking for just get on the thread talking about them and make a point and ask. if you have a specific lift you like and can't find information maybe start a thread and see what some of the guys know about it or what you can teach them that you've found out.

i'm more into old tools and storage, but i do read a lot about other things on this forum.

good luck

This site's search feature is not the best. Try go Googling

" item " garage journal.

Much better chance of success.
And welcome.

Crew Chief, Welcome to Forum. I have a garage with a 11'4" ceiling and just ordered a Bendpak XPR10A . I will have to open up the ceiling a bit to get it in but It will be worth it. I decided on the asymmetrical design because when not in use both of the lifting arms can be swung to the rear. This way I don't have to worry about tripping over them if I walk around the front. As far as quality goes Mohawk is probably the best but I narrowed it down to a Forward or a bendpak. The bendpak was my choice due to the three stage arms and several hundred dollars less in price.
