Nowadays things are made with poor quality or an obveous design flaw. I want to see the projects that right out of the box you said "awe, now THAT has to change". Rather than taking it back to the store, you MAKE IT BETTER than new. For example: I got a bicycle trailer to take my kids on the trail. I went to push them into the store to get a snack and put the third wheel down in the front. The wheel did not swivel... (some dumb single sided arm). Instead of returning it, I grabbed some scrap steel. Cut there pieces to make a caster. Ripped the pin out of the old one and welded it all together. Added some washers for spacing and it will now handle high speed let alone walking through the store.

Lol. I've built hundreds of project spending thousands of dollars on equipment and material that I could have purchased for hundreds of dollars.

And that friends is the circle of life in the garage. :dunno: :lol_hitti

$12.... if anybody mass produced it. $75-$150 to have it fabricated. $750+ for welding equipment and tooling, plus a weekend to make it yourself. :eyecrazy:

Feeling you've got AFTER it's all done.

Makes perfect sense to me.

I agree with you guys. Really not allot of logic in our approach but were damn proud of the tools we have and things we make / fix.

Pursuing metal working as a hobby is more about pride, craftsmanship, and self reliance.

Its also the reason my wife cant park her car in the garage.

I commend you on your ingenuity - but no offense, you could have just bought the right product to begin with...

You bought a bicycle trailer that comes with a 'stroller kit'

You could have bought one that comes with a "stroller kit with a SWIVELING front wheel"....

The idea here was the whole thing cost me $40. I wasn't going to get anything better for the money. So I made it what I wanted without spending any more. I've done this with my lawn mower as well.

The wheel doesn't swivel because its a "Jogging" stroller. With a swivel wheel it will get out of wack and flip quickly at jogging speed.

I don't get it. You say that like garages are made as a place to park your cars :dunno:

My truck is taller than my garage door. What happens to a country kid when he marries a city girl.

To the OP's defense he has a tremendous amount of trail.

I think it is awesome! As a recently new granddad I would like to find a decent umbrella stroller. The current Chinese crapola has swivel wheels that don't turn, plus at 6' tall I must hunch over to push the kid around. Fxsb has given me an idea...

My jogging stroller has a 10" pneumatic tire in front on a ball bearing Rio degree swivel. The swivel has a lock to keep the wheel steady at high speeds, otherwise it is correct that the wheel would wobble and cause a wreck. However, remember that this is a bike trailer and not for jogging. If the swivel wheel need be deployed... it is only for walking when the bike will not Traverse. (In the gas station). However the trailer does fold up fairly neatly and I have thought of it as an obnoxious umbrella stroller.

The stroller kit front wheel was originally a swivel. The spindle was bent to the point that it was not functional. I did not change the functionality of the stroller, I only re-engineered it to be stronger. Notice the spindle was reused from the original spinning design.
