I might be pulling the trigger on this tomorrow morning. I simply can't afford the KRL.

What do you guys think?

With all the rebates and discounts I should be paying around 4.5k or less. The final price hasnt been worked out yet. Stainless steel top included :)

list price was over 16k
the snap on dealer trade show was just a few weeks ago
see what your dealer ordered the boxes usually have heavy show discounts

The only thing I might add is that the extra depth of the KRL is a bigger deal and more useful than you may realise if you've only had shallower boxes before. I would personally rather have a 54" KRL which I could add a side cab to later if I wanted than a 73" wide but only 24" deep box.

Edit: For clarity to the un-initiated: Not all KRL boxes are 30" deep (ie 722) but those are the ones I was referring to. Also note that 24" is still a lot deeper than 'typical' homeowner or lower line truck boxes, which are 18 - 19".

No doubt I love the depth

Have to agree on the depth issue. My krl722 only has 21-22 inch deep drawers and i regret not getting one thats 29 inches deep. makes longer tools easier to store.

I agree. Once you've tried a deep box, you'll never go back. Depth > width anyday.

i was offered a classic 78 for $2900 from my dealer, list is about $4400. i didn't want a "classic". while nice, they seemed kinda cheap too me. i bought a nice used krl761 for $1400. and i LOVE it !
i couldn't get a deeper box, it would not fit my space.

I bought a new Classic 78 for $1700 last month, makes the shop look better with it in there. I didn't want to look for used or China Freight anymore when my dealer offered me that deal.

I have a krl1032 and sometimes wish the drawers were even deeper than 29".
As for the classic, i looked at one and didnt like how it felt and it's made in Canada.:lol_hitti
In all seriousness the classic is a good box for the right price but I would wait for him to get a used krl so you can still do credit.

Yeah I paid $3400 for a brand new cranberry 7022 with a retail of 7k and I got a free jacket out of the deal. It can be done, just have to be patient and ready to pull the trigger when the right deal comes up.

Cundifc,
Was this a Craigslist thing or directly off a dealer's truck? I assumed you paid cash.

No that was from my dealer. And no I did not pay cash. I put about half down.

Buying a new box on credit at full or near full price vs a used box is going to cost what over say 4 years or so to pay it off, three times as much or is it more?

I can't imagine wasting that much money vs using a $500 box for a year or two until I had the cash to buy something else and sell the old one.

What do you guys think?

I think you should have visited Sunny St. Petersburg, Florida - and taken home a KRL 1022 Chrome Edition - for $3,500.00

Yes, the Ad says $3800.00 - but he's had it for sale for quite some time..
Then find one of the many many places to cross the US/Canada border where there are no Customs Agents:lol_hitti

FWIW,
Carl B.
