Hello all, it’s been a long time coming, but I finally bought a house! Not only did I buy a house, but I also found one with a garage bigger than I could have asked for within my price range. My minimum expectation was a 2 car garage, but I found something much better! The house is approximately 1,771 square feet and right before a cut-de-sac so that means low traffic. The garage was originally a traditional 2 car, but the previous owner added the rear section making it a 4 car double deep. The previous couple lived here for 20 years and the husband actually had a Ford GT which is pretty much why he expanded the space. He wanted a place to park it and take care of it. This will serve as my "intro post" but also the thread I continually update as progression occurs so stay tuned!
Before I get into details, I want to warn you that these pictures are taken nearly 3 days within moving so the entire place is a wreck! That includes the cars…all of them are in desperate need of a good detail. Moving is tough and time consuming. And for those of you asking...yes, I do like BMW. How did you know?!
This post will serve as an executive summary of the space. I will be sharing my entire process in detail as things happen, but for now, I just want to provide the current state of everything.
Let’s talk numbers and specs… 42’6” deep, 18’8” wide, and 9’4” ceilings. Clearly you can fit 4 cars in here and I do plan to have 3-4 cars inside at most times depending on what I am working on.
Walls: The walls are drywalled and insulated. There are a few patch jobs that will need some mud, but nothing I can’t tackle myself. Ceiling and walls need paint. I haven’t decided what I’ll do with the lower cinder block. I was considering painting it, but might just leave it exposed. White trim will be repainted white and same with the wood garage door braces.
Power:
I am happy to see that he also added a decent amount of outlets to the extended portion so I don’t anticipate to add any outlets. I will dedicate a circuit to the Kranzle pressure washer if necessary, but for now it plugs in outside the garage.
Floors: The floors are typical garage concrete with no sealant of any kind. Some cracking and they don’t look very nice. That is fine because long term I will probably do Swisstrax.
Light: I am thankful that this garage actually has pretty good lighting for the time being. The owner installed 6 fixtures total which actually provides a decent amount of light for now. Although I would like to add a ton of light, I may just add two more fixtures near the garage door for now. That way I can focus on paint and cabinets. At minimum, I will probably swap out bulbs for 5000k color. Also, there are two sliding windows in the back is a plus for light and airflow. There is a door to go inside the house, but there is also a door that goes out back. Initially I hated it, but after living here for over a week, I’ve used it 3 dozen times so it will stay.
Gear: I would love to do Saber cabinets on the back wall, but after buying furniture for the house, tools, lawn equipment, etc, the numbers are adding up. I am undecided as to what cabinet array to go with at the moment due to being gun-shy after paying for so many things at once. I have a Kranzle 1122 and would probably sell it for a wall mount option, but that is not high priority yet. I would also like to look into a slop sink of some sort, but need to check how plumbing is run. For flooring, I will do Swisstrax. For music, I am undecided, but will use my crappy bluetooth speaker for now.
I am so excited and grateful to have all the cars under one roof finally and to be able to design my entire space exactly how I want. I know many of you follow my YouTube channel, so I have posted my intro video to the garage below. Thanks for the input!
