I recently picked up a Chicago Pneumatic CP797 1" impact, and my first goal was to pick up some 1/2" quick connects to use on the tool. I had no idea 1/2" stuff was as expensive as it is, but I was able to luck into a set of fittings for cheap.
The impact has a brass reducer in place, and my first goal was to remove it and the male fitting to use my larger connector. Well, that didn't work out too well. I initially tried to remove the reducer and male fitting together, but went poorly from the start. My first issue was that whoever assembled the fittings, didn't use the correct tools as both fittings were pretty mangled. As such, I was unable to use a box head wrench. I tried a 12" pipe wrench, but all it did was start chewing up the brass.
I decided to stop there, as I didn't want to screw up things any worse. I was able to eventually remove the male fitting, though, and was left with this:
Question is, how should I proceed? I don't want to continue damaging the brass reducer, but need to get it removed. Worst case, I can always remove the inlet bushing from the tool itself, but a replacement is $20.
Now, worst case is I leave the mangled reducer in place, but that will drive me nuts. I have a fitting that will thread directly in place, but I am entirely OCD to keep looking at the damaged fitting.
