Who makes a quality Brass hammer - 8 oz or so? Everything I see online looks like ****, US made or not. Someone must make a Vessel quality small brass hammer.

Grace are the ones I'm referring too when it comes to poor quality. The pictures they chose to show online have a horrible handle to head fit and I'm looking for something better.

:wtf: the heads are pinned to the handles.

(Bowers has better photo images - he does his own.)

I see a hole for a pin in Bowers images, but don't see a pin. I also don't like the fit of wood the metal. Maybe someone can show me more clearly the quality of that fit.

I've got other items in the shopping cart at MidwayUSA. I guess for $17 I'll try the Grace. If it turns out to be a disappointment, I'll make my own handle for it.

Keep in mind that if you use a brass hammer a lot, you will use it up.

I think that could be said for pretty much anything you can think of. I'm using this for delicate work on firearms and such, not building a house....

I've got the appropriate tools for the job at hand, please see my screen name. This is just one more in the arsenal.

What about the possibility of making one. Brass is pretty easy to work, and you could make whatever size or shape you wanted. I have made a few of them over the years, from both brass and copper.

Yep, thought about making one. It's a great little project, I've got other things to work on right now so buying is more in line with present needs.

I use Grace tools for my firearms and really like them. I don't own any high dollar tools, mostly 20 year old Craftsman stuff, but the Grace are better made than anything I have.

I'm perfectly happy with the grace. I got the long 8oz which seems right.

Here's some other choices...

http://www.abchammers.com/brass_head_hammers.html.

Trident carries ABC as well as Proto and Armstrong
http://www.trident-supply.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=brass+hammer

Trident also carries Beta, which has a variety of brass and copper hammers
http://www.trident-supply.com/category-s/9210.htm

Don't know if they have brass, but Osca has nice copper hammers

Thanks for the options, the Armstrong is for sure the same as the Grace at least in the smaller sizes. It looks like the Carlyle from NAPA (posted by another) is a Grace as well.

Terrible news, the gentleman that made these hammers (Shooboy) lost his wife earlier this year and does not seem to be able to motivate himself to make more hammers (which I totally understand). I'm sorry for his loss. I'll go with the Grace for now. Will see what the future brings.

After I had completely used up my first one, I made three more heads, 1" dia x 3" long. The second one is about half gone compared to one hardly used. (Last one in reserve in the tool box waiting for a handle.)

That's a shame, thanks for sharing. I have one of his hammers and bought another as a gift

Any update with regards to the hammer??
