What are brass picks used for? I bought a few at a yard sale... they're all 90°

Non sparking applications or where a softer metal is needed to not scratch the workpiece.

Be carefull, those picks could be beryllium copper. It's similar in appearance and the dust from grinding or sharpening is very harmful to breathe.

You use them for IS (Intrinsic Safety) applications or anywhere you would need to limit the energy needed for ignition (i.e. electrical equipment, chemistry, etc.).

Or adjusting things are are sensitive to magnetic parts (CRT TV repair is probably what they were from).
