I work part time at a Fastenal and noticed that there are some brass screws that are quite cheap. I am assuming that since they are 'slotted' screws that they just aren't selling. Some are tiny but not all.

Thanks for posting about the screws. I didn't need any, but I looked through the clearance catalog and found some other things I needed. The best deal was some 7" grinding wheels for the angle grinder. They were an excellent deal at $0.89 each. Usually they are $5-$7 apiece at other places, so I saved some money on that.

Do you know how often they post a new clearance catalog? I need to keep watching for it since they sometimes have some excellent deals on closeout stuff.

Several months back, I bought a few 10lb. rolls of flux core wire at a huge discount. When I finally did get a chance to use it I realized it was some excellent stuff. Of course, by then they had sold it all. I wish I had bought several more rolls.

Engine,

I also work for Fastenal. They usually publish them quarterly - just always keep an eye on the website, as that is the best way to find clearance items. They can be narrowed down by clearance. August is one of the best months for tool discounts.

While we are on the topic of clearance items... (Sorry for small pics). Just put those numbers in at the top of the Fastenal website and it should give you the info on the items.

How about....

$1.99 for 7" grinding wheels and just above a dollar for 4.5"

Thanks for the info and the pics. I'm going to be checking back to see what the next clearance catalog has too.

The prices in the catalog on most items is a lot lower than the regular price, so that's great if you happen to need something now or for later use. I bought a bunch of those grinding wheels so I should be set for awhile on those.

Just curious; who are Fastenal's main customers? Are they mostly contractors, big facilities, or individuals?

It seems like shipping kills a lot of these deals. Yesterday I added 10 grinding disks to my cart, and at $15 for shipping it was more than the disks themselves.

I ordered some items for store pickup and it showed $4.41 shipping/handling. But, my email confirmation states "Estimated Shipping & Handling: $4.41"

So I'm wondering how bad I'll get screwed. At no point prior to payment did it say estimated.

I would personally go into the store and order it. Theres a better chance of getting the shipping costs reduced. We own our own trucking fleet, and there would be no UPS involved. They try to negotiate an $8 or so shipping and handling, but I would try to negotiate that down.

As to customers, it all depends on the area. We have a lot of manufacturing plants such as Fire Trucks, Bucket Trucks, Forging Companies, Tube and Pipe, Tools, Weatherguard and a bunch more. We also take care of many cement plants, quarries, medical companies, electrical companies, fleet maintenance, candy companies, and plastics manufacturers. Some of the smaller customers are landscaping companies, local garages, or even just the average Joe.

There is also a push for having stores inside customers facilities. This is an "Onsite Location", where you have at least one person there 40 hours a week to take care of the needs.

We also have industrial vending machines, which can help with managing inventory and dispensing product. We stock it, bring what you need, and you can see who is taking what, when they are taking it, how often, and how many. It usually cuts costs.

The market is surely changing, and its not just about nuts and bolts. Especially since we have been around over 50 years.
