I need a brass spring for my Newton #2 combination square, which appears to be a copy of the Starrett design. It's about 1/4" i.d., and (was) slightly longer. It broke. I sent Starrett an email for part PT01086 SPRING, #11 .257X.308X.563. Hopefully I am not unjustly prejudiced, but I have little expectation of receiving a response, since I am a little guy, not a machine shop. Thanks! M

Actually, I recv'd a response from Starrett within hours. I can call to order the part. Caveat Emptor. It will cost nearly $13 with shipping, however. Anyone have a better source for brass springs of this kind? M

Do you have an Ace Hardware where you live? I have taken apart single lever kitchen faucets that have little springs about that size. A good hardware store may carry items like that.

Mick56, I've ordered a pack of springs from the bay. If they work, I'll post the link. I recall, now that you mention it, seeing those little springs in a faucet ball. I might even have one in my plumbing box. Ha! Thanks! m
