Alright guys, let me start off by saying this is my first thread, and after lurking around for a few months I need some help. Unfortunately i locked the keys to my tool box IN the box itself. Now I know the best thing to do is to get a replacement key, and this is what i planned to do. I had mentioned to a friend that i lost the key and he said he could get into it. I came home to find the key tumbler broken out and the box is still locked, so now not only and i locked out, but i have to buy a new lock also. Im hoping that someone knows how to help me get my tools back. Thanks for any help

You need to turn the linkage that was connected to the back of the cylinder. Most likely fell into the top drawer.

you can also look for the number on the lock and get a new key from Snap On. My key is a YA-82 and I keep at least 6 on hand.I also keep a tool box key on my eveyday key chain and one in my work locker hidden. I have one key that opens all of my Snap On boxes and one key that opens my craftsman box and cabinet. Always keep a spare key at work . I't's also a good idea to keep a spare car key at work too.

I agree that a new key is the way to go, but as i posted, the key tumbler mechanism is now busted off of the box, so that is no longer and option

The linkage is a rod flatened at the end. You may need to get it with needle nose pliers and pull it to you a bit and then turn.
The is a lot of irony in needing tools to unlock your tool chest.:lol_hitti

Well guys i finally got it open!!! With using the idea in the video, I was able to use my square. Figured out that i was doing it all wrong. I had never seen the inside of the box so i wasnt sure how it worked and locked, but now after i figured it out, its super easy to break into a box, kinda scary to know... now time to buy a new lock and install.

How did you lock your keys in your box?

I don't have a SO but if I have the drawers open then lock my box with the key the drawers will lock once I push them shut...

So I can see how it could happen...
