Breaker Bar and Extensions

I'm starting to rebuild my tool collection after everything was stolen earlier this year.

i have the 255 pc craftsman set as well as a 3 pc plier set and a 20pc screwdriver set.

next up is finding a decent breaker bad and some extensions and swivel joints. anyone have any recommendations for some decent quality made in USA stuff?

later on i might buy some snap on ratchets and a few other things, but right now snap on is a bit rich for my blood.

my personal favorite place to look is pawn shops and garage sales. you can get matco, s/o, cornwell, etc at craftsman prices. if you want to buy new, proto make some good stuff.

My favorite breaker bar is a taiwan autozone 24" cr-v piece. Prefer that type of head design. Long heated debates on which is better, that's just what I prefer when having to manually bust loose 150-200ftlb bolts/lugs manually. Not sure if they still carry them or how they are priced. Was around $15 when I bought it 5 years ago.

Used to have sunex (taiwan) impact extensions in the diesel shop. My tool collection too, greatly dwindled and am restarting. Looking at "v8 tools" brand on tooltopia.com. Interested in that 3ft'er with the 3/8 reducer built in, to use along with my snap on swivel impacts. (transmission and long reach work) Have no problems going back to sunex for other extensions though.

I haven't had a need to buy any (lesser) chrome extensions, impact style have provided dual purpose for me.

I too would prefer USA breaker bar, but quite frankly never found any that offered a n increased value, whether it was strength or price. A few abused and broken snap on breakers turned several of us on to the auto zone deal when in a pinch. It was supposed to be just temporary until the snap on guy came back around, but proved to be strong enough to take the abuse repeatedly. In the event of a warranty issue, it was easier than waiting a week. Fortunately the need never arose, and all have still survived.

thanks, any certain brands or part numbers i should look for? everything i owned before was craftsman, except my old breaker bar was Husky. only by coming here did i realize i could find deals on snap on and a bunch of other brands that i never heard of before.

Have you look at Ko-Ken? It is made in Japan, same quality as snap-on (some say better). Much cheaper

I know he said US made but man you really can not beat the HF breaker bars. Like said above they are all on clearance right now with the shorter ones being $3.77 each before coupon. I have beat the living daylights out of my 25" 1/2" breaker bar and it is still going strong. I actually broke my proto breaker bar and had to go and get the HF bar to finish the job once.

We have one HF 25" breaker bar. Holding up well for commercial duty use and "beefier" than the 1/2" drive Kokens we have. I wish I purchased 2 pieces. Very useful for removing Honda Crank Pulley bolts. Would like one for the bolt itself and one for this tool below.

I bought 3 of the HF type breaker bars, they work well, had one busted when the mechanic comes over and says, something about 3/4 drive etc, duh put a pipe cheater on it. I carry one in my pickup.

Check flea-bay, pawn shops, and yard sales for "deals".

Paid $8 for a used Wardsmaster (made by Wright) 18", 1/2" drive breaker bar.
Paid $5 for a PAIR of NOS NAPA (made by New Britain) 1/2" drive extensions.
