Quick question. I stopped to get a small breaker box today. SWMBO said we had to get the same type of box that was in the house, since we're coming off the house box. That didn't make any sense to me.:headscrat Electricity doesn't care, does it? The house is Siemens and I bought a Square D. Am I ok? :dunno:

You are just fine, perhaps even better. The brand is simply that - a brand. Electricians like one brand over another for a multitude of reasons. I like Square D, as they have never let me down even on big switchgear.

You did great.

I prefer keeping them the same, but only for breaker interchangeability reasons. Unless of course the house one is some old piece of ****.

The wife told u this? Is she an electrician?

There is no such code or rule that all the breaker boxes have to be the same brand.

Just another whopper from the urban legend code book or internet FUD bible.

You just can't use the SQ D breakers in any panel other then SQ D, talking about Homeline, which "will fit" others, as QO only fit QO, having all panels the same is best but code does not mandate it.

Has SWMBO been reading GJ over your shoulder? She seems to be repeating what you will read on here many times, even though there is no reason to support that view - code or otherwise.

Thx guys, that's what I thought. And just so you don't think SWMBO is a fool, she was only going by what the person who built the barn told her. That person was supposedly a licensed electrician. And I get the breaker swap thing. Thx again.
