breaker tripping

Got the power turned on to my house and I am fighting two issues that have me stumped.

First problem for now. Bath light circuit is on a arc fault breaker. As soon as I turn my bath lights on, it trips the breaker. Simple three light circuit that I can find no fault with. As a test, I hooked up that bath circuit to a regular breaker and lights come on fine.

I then replaced the arc fault breaker with another one and it also trips.

I took another circuit that works and put that circuit on the bath breaker and it also trips the bath breaker yet that circuit works fine on its own arc fault breaker.

So it seems that no matter what circuit I attach to the bath circuit, it trips the bath breaker and whatever breaker I put the bath circuit on, it trips that breaker. I can not logically understand this one. Any thoughts?

You could have neutral and ground crossed somewhere beyond the switch. Maybe neutral touching the case of the box or something.

***Update ***


First issue has been resolved. The neutral from the lights was attached to the neutral bar of the panel rather than the fact breaker. Initially I was not using facilities breaker for the lights and was later told that I needed to. At that point I just replaced the regular breaker with the fact and forgot.to move the neutral to the breaker.


On to my second problem...

Damn those afci breakers are finicky. So far so good. Only thing not checked yet is my AC/furnace. Other than that, all circuits are working. Looks like after 3+ years, I will get my final inspection on the house.

I had to put AFCIs in when I did my addition to the house. One just recently bit the dust, so I just put a regular breaker in its place. I'll deal with changing it if and when I ever move...
