Well I have finally started breaking groung for my pole barn! I have a total budget of $10K and want it finished outside w/ garage doors, 3/0 door, windows, "bubble insulation" roof, 12" eaves, wainscoting, cupola, and concrete floor (at least inside) for what I have to spend.
To date I have spent $700 on excavation, $160 hauling fill, (w/ tandem dumptruck, borrowed from my dad), $130 on 6 new construction 20"x30" windows, $70 rock bit rental (just bit), and one 16 ton load of 1-2" dirty base $110 to backfill poles and driveway/floor construction. Grand total $1170.
I am in SW MO (very rocky) and am building on a pad built up from boulders excavated from my walkout basement home and creek gravel and hopefully some dirt.
My generous grandpa who I frequently help with his mechanical issues was generous enough to let me borrow his skid steer w/auger attachment (did have to rent rock auger (bit only) today but have managed to get 15 of the 18 holes dug and hopefully get the others done tommorrow am.
Now the questions:
I want to do attic trusses 4 oc, 30' span, 2x6 top chord 2x8 or 10 bottom chord all DSS grade lumber. Is 4' oc sound too flimbsy? This space will just be for storage. I know I would also need to go back and add joist sections where the decking sheets will ****.

Re: Breaking ground for a 30x30 w/ 10 Lean to: UPDATE

Been a while since I've posted anything about progress made so here we go: Ordered all lumber July 11 to put up basic frame including 8/12 pitch attic trusses. Took me about a week to get it delivered, then started putting up poles the next day. Finally finished setting poles and and hanging wall purlins about a week later. Another $2800 spent.

Yesterday the trusses finally went up! I left the front wall open and fabricated a pole that slipped over the tractor spike to lift them into place, which was a huge time saver (trusses weigh approx 400# a piece). I have to wait to put the last truss up after I get the end wall done. Trying to load pics, says security token missing...:headscrat
