Well after years of looking on this Forum and following a lot of builds. I finally bit the bullet and broke ground on a garage building. Feel these build threads are much more interesting with a little back story and history so here goes nothing. I'll try to make this short. Going to apologize now for the heavy pictures no clue to how to resize them from using a link...?

I'm 24 living in NE North Carolina. My fiance and I bought a 13arce property with a horse barn and living quarters 3 yrs ago. Been saving ever since to build a House and Shop. Built a couple cars out of the barn but its been a struggle being in the elements some what and no space of my own. Finally we broke ground a couple weeks ago.

I'm a huge FORD guy and love Autocross and road track racing. Currently run a 2014 Mustang GT in SCCA Solo all local regions but planning in 2017 to go to a national event. Optima search for the ultimate car has grabbed me in by both feet. Ran the last 2 years at Charlotte motorspeedway and getting closer to winning my class . Also own a '72 maverick and my fiance has a '67 f250. I've done a little of it all but with building this shop hope to do a lot more.

These are just mine I'll post some more later and other cars I've had the please to work on and build.

Now on to the building We are building a Clayton Modular home and I went with DIY pole barns for a 30x48 14ft ceiling pole barn style garage.

.

We broke ground and striped back all the top soil and replaced with compacted sand for the base.

Then rented a Bobcat and started digging some holes.

Last weekend we were able to rent a Towable JLG and used it to lift the trusses into place. This would really good and was a lot of fun also.

Signing on for updates. ;) Kudos for your SCCA involvement. The Kansas City region is really active. This looks like a very interesting build!!

Thanks! I'm super happy about this build.

Yea autocross is huge out there in the midwest. I have like 6 different clubs to run with that are with in a couple hour drive so event numbers are mixed but we turn out at least 60 at any 1 event. My Stang hasn't even scratch the surface for CAM rules and run top 10 of every event. Much more to come with the car build as well.

Thanks!

My fiance and I was able to get the corner bracing up and rough in 2 of the 4 windows and almost all the purlins up on the roof. Was a slow weekend going from the ground to the roof every couple boards sucked. Couple extra hands would of made it so much faster.

Been so busy lately have had no time to post and with the storms we have had in the past month really set us back. Concrete floor is poured and all the framing is finally done. Tin work is finally happening this weekend and electrical is being run next week.

Anyone with a similar size shop have any imputs on lighting? I'm looking into using 12 8ft units from lowes in a 3 wide 4 deep pattern. Math gave me 96 lumens per square foot.

Thanks!

The guys over at diy are awesome. Super helpful and will do just about anything to make your building what you dream of. I even had a couple damaged and missing items they made a super quick shipment out to replace them so it didn't me up building. I would recommend them to anyone.

Finally we closed on the loan for the new house and shop build!!!!!!!

Coated the floor with SPGX that I found on the forum and so far I'm in love with the way it turned out. Super easy to apply, My fiancee and I rolled the first coat out Saturday and the 2nd Sunday used 10gal.

Now Its time for wiring, doing an outlet ever pole for now till I build benches and find the best locations for outlets. Installing 16 8ft t8 overhead lights in a 4x4 grid. ( have a question for wiring I posted in the electrical section)

How much insulation is in this? Very nice, never heard of DIY Pole Barns before

They are wonderful people to work with, very helpful and the price I couldn't find anyone to match it with free shipping and tax. I got 3in insulation on all sides. Seems so far to work great. Weather right now here is up and down one day 75 and the next barely out of the 20s and 30s at night sometimes, but inside the shop it it hasn't dipped below 40 yet with no heaters.

Looks great! I must've missed it, how big is it?

Thanks its, 30x48 with 14ft ceilings planning for a 2 post lift and a 16x12 loft/bench tool area
