If they wont warranty them for being worn out, don't break them. That is dishonest. You Can find nice ones for a couple dollars at Pawn Shops.

Perhaps giving yourself a sharp rap behind the right ear will do the trick.

Put a piece of square steel in the vice, place the wrench on it, wrap the wrench in towels, pipe over the wrench and go to town.

I don't condone this but just wanted to answer the question.

I don't think that any warranty covers abuse or normal wear and tear and if you purposely figured out a way to break the wrench I would certainly consider that abuse. I couldn't sleep at night if I did that. I don't care how much you pay for a tool it is going to wear out sooner or later. Then you buy a new one.

How is it that you have several worn out adjustable wrenches? I have a couple sizes of adjustable wrenches that I use maybe once a year. I don't use them often because I have regular wrenches and sockets that I use. Adjustable wrenches are not all that well suited for daily use since they only grip on two sides. Box end wrenches and sockets (especially 6 sided) fit better and they grip all around the bolt or the nut. Just curious here, may I ask what are you using so many adjustable wrenches for?

25 years of residential plumbing and I retired with 17 adjustable wrenches, from small to very large, and they still work great.

Best response! Haha My only old one has been beat hard by me and refuses to die, or even dent for that matter.

WE NEED PICS OF THE "WORN OUT" WRENCHES OR I CALL BS.

I could see a cheap one waring out, as they are sloppy when new. I have a old proto 10 in I found in a car I bought 15 years ago. Still works great. Must see pics as the op stated he paid big bucks for them?

There is a right direction and a wrong direction to apply torque with an adjustable. Using it the wrong way would give the impression of being worn.

Come on dude!? You want us to help you figure out how to break your tools?

Do as others have said and either try and warranty them as is, or man-up and buy another one. And when you say big bucks, how much were they? You can pick up 40-50 year old adjustable wrenches (in excellent shape) from a pawn shop for sub-$5. If you are wearing them out, that makes me believe you are buying the el-cheapo models.

I've seen some oil field and railroad dudes that are pretty hard on Adjustables and Pipe Wrenches. I bet they could break or wear one out in record time.

I'm just curious as to the brand of the tools in question. I'm not looking to pile on the OP, just looking for a good solution that doesn't involve having to break a bucket full of Adjustables. If they're Craftsmans then they'll probably just warranty them as is.......

Regarding the above post, when Sub-Contracting on a Gas drilling site, probably 9 months back, in the tool crib there was a pair of Rigid 36" still sons, one steel and one aluminium, bot bent with the handled twisted somewhere between 45 and 90degrees, laying amongst the pile of other broken **** near the tool crib, just amazed me that it's possible to destroy something that stout.

7 foot cheater :) I bent one of my fathers wrenches in 1961 and was worried that he would chew me out. I got away with it that time but a couple of years ago the cheater broke that same wrench.

I have a pair of 15 inch Crecents that have had everything from a pipe to a hammer put on them in the past 30 years and they're still holding up. "Wore out" doesn't seem to be in any decent adjustable wrenches nature.

I'm sure the merchant wouldn't think twice seeing "a bunch" of adjustable wrenches that all happen to be broken in the same way.
:lol_hitti

If they are worn to the point of being unserviceable, just ask for warranty on that basis. Why [try to] be deceptive right off the bat?

Okay, here's a dumb answer to a dumb question...Try hitting yourself over the head with them until they break. You're dishonest, and I'm not entirely sure why you'd go online to publically advertise it.

This is a false statement now depending on the tool brand but your big four Snap-On, Matco, Cornewell, Mac and some others. Will warranty worn out sockets adjustable wrenches, pipe wrenches, ratchets hell even broken torx bits and many other things that brake due to normal use or just plain abuse.

In your basement...seriously, go look now!
Which adjustable wrenches cost "big bucks" beside the tool truck brands? If they wear out they might be warrantable for an exchange depending on the degree of wear and the impairment of functionality. Breaking them just for the warranty is beyond despicable.

Properly dog piled as usual, But the queestion of worn out is valid.

I have owned several over time that the springs in the thumbwheel failed causing slack in the adjuster/jaw, I sprung one badly usinig it to remove axle bolts on a Case tractor making the jaws V shaped. Wear over time will do the same.

All were low bucks/2nd hand stuff and most all have been resold since. Casual users like cheap tools. The sprung unit had the jaws reground to parallel and re-entered regular service up to its sale. No attempts were made to hide facts.

No, actually Snap-on, Matco, Cornwell, Mac, etc state that they won't warranty abused or worn out tools.

Snap-On's official statement:

"In addition to any limitations outlined in warranty statements provided with the Product, Snap-on does NOT provide any warranty for products subjected to "abnormal use". "Abnormal use" includes misuse, accident, modification, unreasonable use, abuse, neglect, lack of maintenance, use in product-related service, or use after the product is significantly worn. Abnormal use of tool storage units also includes, without limitation, situations when a unit is pulled using a mechanical vehicle, rolled over large drops, used in a highly corrosive environment, used as a step stool, modified with non-Snap-on parts, overloaded or modified in any way."

Your driver, or even corporate, may warranty something for you on goodwill, but if they don't want to warranty your chrome sockets that you've been using on an impact, they DON'T HAVE TO.

I don't want to get snippy, but this has been discussed way too many times on this forum..... The only reason they will warranty abuse or worn out tools is because they want to provide good customer service. All of their warranty fine print states something similar.

The only company that guarantees they will warranty abuse or worn out tools is craftsman. All others reserve the right to refuse the warranty for any tools they believe have been abused or worn out. Very few drivers follow the official warranty statement however, because they want their customers to be loyal.

I'd guess this is someone young who's purchased used tools and wants to try to fraudulently warranty them for new ones. Seems unlikely to me that some old timer, who's owned his wrenches for 20 years, would then post on an internet forum about how do I break these to get new ones. Someone who's used their tools long enough to have worn them out, would know how to break them, and would also know that worn tools are not covered by most warranties.

If thats true. What you're trying to do is fraud, and is a very serious crime.
