No, actually Snap-on, Matco, Cornwell, Mac, etc state that they won't warranty abused or worn out tools.

Snap-On's official statement:

"In addition to any limitations outlined in warranty statements provided with the Product, Snap-on does NOT provide any warranty for products subjected to "abnormal use". "Abnormal use" includes misuse, accident, modification, unreasonable use, abuse, neglect, lack of maintenance, use in product-related service, or use after the product is significantly worn. Abnormal use of tool storage units also includes, without limitation, situations when a unit is pulled using a mechanical vehicle, rolled over large drops, used in a highly corrosive environment, used as a step stool, modified with non-Snap-on parts, overloaded or modified in any way."

Your driver, or even corporate, may warranty something for you on goodwill, but if they don't want to warranty your chrome sockets that you've been using on an impact, they DON'T HAVE TO.

I don't want to get snippy, but this has been discussed way too many times on this forum..... The only reason they will warranty abuse or worn out tools is because they want to provide good customer service. All of their warranty fine print states something similar.

The only company that guarantees they will warranty abuse or worn out tools is craftsman. All others reserve the right to refuse the warranty for any tools they believe have been abused or worn out. Very few drivers follow the official warranty statement however, because they want their customers to be loyal.
I'm sure the fine print says all that but if the dealers are not enforcing it then it doesn't mean squat. That being said I wouldn't purposely brake my tools just to collect a warranty.

I do find it funny you mentioned craftsmen warranty last time I took a tool to them for warranty I was greeted with an attitude and a long wait I left without the tool.

I have snap on warranty worn out sockets all the time, a worn tool is not good for the user or the fastener. They never told me otherwise.
I've seen guys try to break visegrips to get warrantied, pretty hard to do. Me, I cut fresh teeth into mine.

I'd guess this is someone young who's purchased used tools and wants to try to fraudulently warranty them for new ones.

Beat me to it. I suspect too this is what is happening. Get a new replacement, then sell it on eBay.

Years ago, I worked in the tool department at Sears in Buffalo, NY. This stuff happened all the time. One of many examples: Old completely rusted claw hammer, including the face. No recent use. With one freshly broken claw. Customer throws it on the counter in disgust with a 'Craftsman's Best' replacement already picked off the shelf. I would not cover it. Period. We would all go through the same routine. I would show it around to my other colleagues for their opinion (this was a reoccurring staged event), they would all agree it was not eligible for coverage. By this time, many in the department saw it, so they could not expect to successfully return it at our store.

The regulars that really bought stuff, we granted alot of flexibility. But the scrap yard auto disassemblers that would come in with handfuls of 5/8" and 3/4" shattered chrome sockets, no way. I would extend them a 50% discount on open stock equivalent impact sockets. Most often, they were too cheap to even buy one. That was very telling.

Being an active wrencher myself, working in the Sear's tool department for several years was an experience. Hearing some of the broken tool stories was always a sources of amusement. It also highlighted alot about people's honesty and integrity, or lack thereof.

Many years ago when I was still on the farm, we broke a Craftsman socket trying to remove one of the rear wheels on a tractor. We put a long pipe on the breaker bar and we broke the socket. We took it to a Sears store and we told them exactly what we did, expecting to buy a new one. The guy just laughed and gave us a new socket for free. We thanked him, went home and tried it again. The second time must have been a charm because the new socket didn't break.

We could use that attraction on the American side.
I was over in the Falls yesterday, both sides of the border. The Canadians know how to do it right. $20 to park your car right by the falls on their side :wtf:. That's if you're not willing to walk a couple blocks through the entertainment district where parking is half that. The tourists there, ohh the tourists. Anyhoo, what was the question again?

My wife and I went there for an early fall vacation the year before last and had a great time. We camped at the KOA on Grand Island. You are right that the Canadians know how to do it right. The American side looked like its heyday was in the 70's. I think a wrench breaking show on the American side would be an improvement!! Perhaps the OP could make enough money on the show to buy new wrenches!

I may come up your way this fall to go camping again. I'm getting hungry for a beef on wick from Scwables, wings from the Anchor Bar, And a great Cajun meal at **** & Jenny's on Grand Island. If you never ate at **** & Jenny's I would highly reccomend it.

I couldn't agree more with your assessment. Pretty sad how the town is. The NF state park is beautiful on USA side though. Majestic view of the falls on either side.
Good to hear you had a great time. I recommend the Aquarium of Niagara if you have little kids.

Cajun sounds darn good but I never heard of that place on the island. We'll have to try it, thanks.

Just try to warrant it for being worn out. My experience most of the warranty doesn't cove wear and tear. Check if you can exchange it ?

The only adjustable I have ever witnessed breaking was a 24" proto we had it on a large bolt that wouldn't budge and a comealong through the eyelet the thumb wheel is what actually let loose

I do have a 8" USA crescent brand that is only a year or so old that the jaws are horrible looking compared to ones I have that are much older I guess QC went down hill big time before the left the us
