I scored a storm door (no screen) for 5 bucks at a yard sale. Put that on last night. I like this because it will keep the elements off the door/ jambs, preventing water damage.

Ordered the metal roofing, it will arrive next week. Not sure when they will get to deliver it. Probably install that the weekend after delivery.

I really like the looks of the garage doors with the glass panels. A great look, and as has been said, it looks like some of the service stations I remember from when I was young. Very cool!

Thanks for sharing your pictures with us.

Thanks for all the kind words GGB!

Now that you mention the service stations it brings back memories of my grandfathers old garage. (owned by a family friend now) I would go down every Saturday with my father. Everyone would B.S. and look out of the glass panels. Without all the lower glass panels I wouldn't have been able to see out. I was really young at the time.

Today the metal roofing and trim were delivered. The delivery guy and owner of the company gave me some schooling on trimming out the chimney. He also recommended removing all the moss off of the roof. I had already removed a lot of it. He said to use a wire brush. I got the front side done and all the steel bristles were broke off.

My father in law came over and helped me with installing the furring strips. We were able to get the front side done. They were spaced on 2ft centers.

Tomorrow I will get a sheet of 1/2 plywood and fix the rotten area around the chimney. Then proceed to the furring strips on the backside of the roof.

I agree with the others, that is a great space. A lot of potential. Can't wait to see what else you do. I think the glass on the door looks great!

Cut the replacement to fit in one piece and lowered it down over top of the chimney. IT actually fit on the first attempt!!

Then got started on the firring strips. Father in law helped out today.

Here is a little spacer jig i made to help in the 2ft spacing of the strips. I thought it is easier to use this than pull out a tape measure ever time, I guess i could have snapped a line too but this worked well.

Got the front side done tonight. Here is the finished product. Notice the pile of moss below and to the right of the window. :eyecrazy:

Just finished the roofing. Ended up tearing down the chimney. It was pretty wobbly, cracked. and I/ we were unsure of the proper way to flash the chimney.
My wood stove was cracked and in need of replacement. I have been planning on switching to a propane torpedo or wall mount blue flame. this was the time to make the final decision. Id rather have no wood heat than another leaky roof from improper flashing.

Here are some of the days pics.

Called the insurance company to inform them that i removed the wood stove and chimney. She called back and said there were no changes in price. I was expecting a drop in the insurance policy. oh well.

MY uncle offered me a reznor type heater NG. I am not sure if it is worth running a gasline to the garage. I could buy a torpedo or move my blue flame to garage, and buy a 100lb tank for the cost of a gas line. Not to mention the effort of digging the trench by hand.

Nothing new going on . been fixing up an old cabinet I got from my grandparents. It was all moldy and musty from being I'm their basement.

Next project for the garage will be getting a Heeter and putting ceiling inand dropping all the insulation on top of ceiling.

This is going to take some time. I will start my new job next month. Which comes with lots of overtime.

Your place has a great vintage vibe. Keep up the good work:thumbup:

EDIT: I have no idea why there is a 'thumbs down' in the title above. I definitely did not put it there. Anyone???

Still plucking away at the toy box.

I got an old metal sign. I will have to find a better spot for it.

I sure am missing my wood stove. The little torpedo just isn't cutting the snuff in these low temps.

Next garage project will be putting a beam up and closing off the ceiling. Just waiting on tax season for that one.

Thanks for the kind words

The metal was around 1200 with all wood supplies. they were 13ft long panels and spanned across 33ft. See post 38 for a price list I believe the cost was around 2.13$ per lineal ft. I ordered from the same place that did the metal on the house.

I like metal it's easy to screw down an goes quickly. We had the front down in 3hrs max

Got the beam up today everything went pretty good. There was a few trusses that were sagging a lot. I think they may have been built that way by the previous owner.

Now I will be needing some OSB to hang for the ceiling.

Also where I had to cut into my wall of cabinets I will built another work bench area. Possibly for my bench grinder. It's been In the Box for a few years

Figured out the layout for the new workbench. It will have cabinets underneath. Maybe above the work surface as well.

Not much shop time after 12 hour days. Progress has been slow.

Finally got the face Frame and bench top installed. I will be getting a sheet of Masonite for a smooth surface.

I also had to relocate the electrical outlet higher in the wall.

While I was out cleaning up the garage I got a little distracted. I wonder how many others have that problem. But I came to the strollers laying against the wall. I made these wall brackets to organize my mess
