Greetings.

I am about to start a build of a 24 X 30 metal building in Texas.

I am in the good situation of the previous owner leaving me 4 1/2 cubes of brick that matches the house. So that means...I've got to use it!

Besides having a brick ledger poured with the foundation, what other steps should I go about planning for brick? I know it has been done MANY times before, but I can't find a good cross section view or diagram of how everything should tie together.

What should be done in prep for a brick facing?

A good brick layer will leave about 2 inches between the back of the brick and the metal siding.
Every third of forth viterical joint on the bottom row should not have mortar, but a screen material that will allow water to seep out. And you will get water. Brick is not water proof.
Think a lot about the top edge and how to match the back edge to the siding.

Thanks. I figured it would need weep holes and an air gap.

I am pretty dang sure the contractor would know what to do...he's built alot of buildings in this area.

I will contract the brick separately...we've got lots of bricklayers around here.

They may want to use a different brick tie because of expansion rates. Also mortar and steel siding can react. I would put a barrier in the metal to stop this.
