I am looking at certain homes in a certain area and the homes have detached garages which are brick like the homes and it seems like they must match..I was thinking to cut costs.I could put up a pole barn/wood, use brick veneer on the sides and put a matching roof on it so it looks like the house. Can it be done? That is if it confides with all of the county rules and all.

Sure.

99% of the brick you see now days is just a veneer.
It is not structural.

Put up your poles, pour your floor slab to provide a 4 inch ledge to the outside of the poles, and call the bricklayers.

I don’t know how much you would save compared to brick veneer over stick built though.

I have a pole barn with novabrick on it (as does the house). We have similar requirements where the two must match. I'm not wild about it, but I think a lot of that has to do with the installation. Both our house and barn were built when we bought it, so I don't know what the cost savings may have been. http://www.novabrick.com has more information about it.

I am gonna price them both and see which is cheaper.I am glad that is an option though. It cost me about $30,000 to do a stick garage(28x32) on L.I. NY.We are moving to NC so pole barns are an option there.I am just trying to save a bit here and there.I know the pole barns go up a bit quicker as well.

Kind of defeats the purpose of a pole barn. They are the cheap way to build.
You can use a fake brick but you will need to sheet your walls.

Pole barns flex more and will creat problems. With regular brick you need a deep footing below the frost line. Fake brick don't require it. With a pole barn you use metal sheets to cover it. You can use T-111 siding but there is a huge painting cost and up keep.

A pole barn is a cheap way to build. The cost of the brick or fake brick is huge and labor intense. I would not waste my money on bricking a pole barn. You can brick the lower half and I have done that when building a business fornt.

Brick is very nice and I think it will pay off if you are going to live there the rest of your life. Painting cost a lot of money. If I were going to brick the shop I would go conventional construction.

Why make a silk purse out of a pigs ear? You can have pole barns that look very nice.
If you have deep pockets then brick away.

+1. Outside of high end custom homes, I'm not even sure when the last time I've seen a residential building with a structural brick walls being built.

A number of communities, particularly more affluent ones, will only allow them with brick of some other sort of "elegant" veneer.
