A contractor just took down a non functioning chimney and left me with all these beige bricks. How can I tell if these are refractory bricks?

If they are refractory bricks can I use them to replace some bricks which may have spalled or cracked on an outside wall.

Refractory bricks are usually only installed in the firebox, with clay tile flue sections lining the chimney. Those are likely just clay bricks.

I will do that asap.
Does anybody know what these bricks are worth, you understand they have all been tested and passed. They should be worth more LOL.

The old ones can bring some $.

I saved a few of the old ones when we bricked in a window because they don't make that size/color anymore. Not likely to be needed but a few bricks in the attic can't hurt.

who tests used bricks?

I am sorry. I was trying to be funny. When I worked in an audio video store and had to sell the floor model (demonstrator), if a client was hesitant we would point out that if it could withstand the hours of use and abuse in store it was sure to last an eternity.
