Has anybody ever heard of a bridge anvil before? There's one for sale in my area for $2,500. He claims it weighs 725 lbs. Here's a photo of it. It's a big boy. It's about 2 feet tall and 34 inches long. The depth across the flat end on the far right hand side where it narrows down is 6".

Never in my life have I seen a hollow anvil

$2500 is too much for a block of metal

A ridgid forged an il that weighs 77lbs. Vosts more than $600.
For a Ridgid anvil that weighed a bit less than 300lbs. the price was more than $2,000.

A 240lb. Rhino anvil, would run $2000+ as well.

A 450lb Nimba Gladiator anvil, will run $2500+

Maybe the price is a bit high for an unknown make, but good anvils are usually expensive, despite being a “lump of steel”.

I suppose it saves you the trouble of finding a good stump, and it's portable. Portable-ish. As portable as a 725 pound lump of iron ever could be, anyway.

The hordes of hoarders have made anvil prices insane, although the price for this one actually seems somewhat rational.

That said, it may be just the crappy blurry photo (seriously, would it kill these sellers to maybe wipe the bird **** off their phones?), but the top of that anvil looks VERY wavy. I can't tell whether it's been worn out or maybe it's a casting that was never finished.

On the off-chance that someone wants to actually use it rather than simply possess it so that others may not, it might need a lot of work to get the top into usable condition.

Hard to know without hands on but it looks to me like the horn is cut off. If that is the case, then the price is way out of line.
