m_tuttle, this one is a MT2 collet and I have a er32 collet holder and collet sets in my ebay cart right now. I want to make sure it works properly before I go buying lots of new tooling though so I'm waiting til I hook it up and try it out. It came with a few collets, cutters and wrenches and an extra draw bar it looks but what I'm not seeing is a knee lift crank so I'll need one of those for sure.

Thanks for posting![/QUOTE]

check out making a power knee lift on YouTube. Mrpete222 has a video for one. I don't have a lathe yet so I haven't made one. But someday I will. Or you can by them on ebay. Basically you use a drill to run the knee. Poor man's power feed lol

If you unscrew the drawbar how would you remove the collet? Without beating on the drawbar?

The drawbar is captured by a nut on the top of the spindle. The drawbar has a collar on it. When the drawbar is turned clockwise it pulls in the collet as you would expect. When unscrewing the drawbar the collet hits the retaining nut and can no longer rise so it pushes out the collet as you continue to turn. The drawbar extends through the retaining nut for wrench access.
Sure wish the R8 machines were the same.

mostly tinkering Bulletpruf but there has been a thousand times over the past few years alone I have thought "if I had a mill I could...." and now I have one so we will see! My son is big into ARs so I'm sure we may mill a couple 80% lowers for shits and giggles. I can use it to make custom trim pieces for the interiors I do, lots of uses.

That's just like my drawbar. I think that's how all the M heads are.

I concur that is how they came but some over the years have lost the retaining nut and drawbar. Yes that is the 'good' one.
