So my milling machine is equipped with Sony Magnescales.
Recently when I turned on the digital readout the y axis scale started smoking. I quickly shut off the readout. I reset everything, looked it over carefully and tried it again and same thing. Since then I removed the scale from the machine to troubleshoot. image 1
I noted breakage where the connector installs on the aluminum housing and mates with the cable end. image 2 and 3 This is not from where it was smoking, I have now cleaned the EXTERIOR of the scale and looked hard for the cause of the smoke. The attachment, I believe with the reader head, is where the smoke was from. On examination the attachment where the wire enters the assembly was smokey. image 4 and 5
Since removal and cleanup I bench tested it, today twice and no smoke. I can find no readily seen issue.
So I am looking for help on a couple questions?
Any one have a similar experience?
Is it safe to disassemble further and insure the interior of the aluminum housing is clean?
I tried super glue and if did not work. Can someone tell me what the broken cable ends are and if the can be retrofit? image 2 & 3
Is there a way to disassemble the connector seen in image 4 & 5?
Please add anything you think I might do. Thanks in Advance.
