Hi
New on here. We have a B&G 10k home generator. Didn't come on the other week when the power went out. Found that the plug for I guess the display, transfer switch, etc. was loose. After reconnecting it, setting the exercise timer, every time I switch it to auto it continues to run until I shut it off. I thought maybe it would just go through the 20 minute exercise cycle and then shut off but continues to run 45 minutes later. I'm definitely not an electrician but was wondering if there was something I am overlooking. It is a model #040243 and runs on LP.
Thanks
Ben

Sounds like the controller isn't seeing the utility voltage, so it's sending the 2 wire start signal to the generator. Is it actually switching to generator power, or just running while the house stays on utility power?

What's the model of transfer switch?

It is just running while the house stays on utility.

The only info I could find on the transfer switch is
Briggs & Stratton Power Products
Automatic Transfer Switch
250VAC 100 AMP
205108

There are utility sensing fuses inside the transfer switch that may have popped. This will tell the control board to fire up the generator, but with utility present it may hold the linear motor in place and not transfer to gen power.

I'll dig through my stuff and see if I kept any manuals. It's been over 1-1/2 years now since I've worked on a Briggs gen, with a lot of other stuff since, but I'll help how I can.

Not a problem. The circuit with the fuses will be live AC, so don't just dig into it without taking proper precautions.
