Briggs and Stratton throttle spring

I have a cheap push mower w/ a Briggs and Stratton engine on it. It surges terrible. The throttle spring is stretched and weak, I figure I need a new spring to fix the surging. Where can I find the spring? Local would be nice, but online is easier, it shows up at the door. I found it on Amazon and Ebay for about $8-10 shipped, seems a bit much. I also need a new pull cord and knob for it. Anyone know a good online vendor? Perhaps a local store that stocks these parts? Thanks guys.

I'm pretty sure Ace Hardware carries an assortment of small springs..maybe you can get lucky. As far as an online source..ereplacementsparts is my first choice. Shipping costs might be a little high for your liking though..

About 5-6 years into my last $100 push mower the spring was worn out. Not the proper repair by any means, but I cut the spring shorter, bent a new end and hooked it back up.

Ran it like that until the deck finally rusted threw a few years later.

Thanks for the links and advice. Stretching the existing spring isn't an option, it is severely fatigued. No longer spring-y, just extends and stays stretched. I'll see about swinging by Ace this afternoon.

It's almost guaranteed the pick-a-nut section of your local hardware will not have the correct spring, tho one may work with modification you run the risk of over revving the engine and throwing the rod.
I'm assuming the spring in question is a separate part in the carb linkages and not one that parallels the rods or wraps around one. The ones that parallel are to remove slop in the linkages and are not really necessary but the one(S) that are by themselves are related to the governor. An improperly governor will cause all kinds of running issues.
I went through every spring in our pick-a-nuts trying to find a suitable one to replace a missing one on a piece of rental equipment with no luck. Correct spring from Honda was $3.

Throttle springs are usually application specific and are even colored differently depending on their preset tension. I doubt you'll find anything in a spring assortment without wasting a lot of gas and back and fourth trips.

I'd offer to throw one in a stamped envelope for you but I wont have access to anything until the end of the week.
