I inherited a Coleman PowerMate 542000 I would like to get working, but it is missing some parts. The motor is a Briggs & Stratton 5 hp but there is no engine model number where Briggs says it should be (on the frame). The pic is what it SHOULD look like.

Does anyone know where to find the model/serial number on a Briggs & Stratton 5 hp engine or carb?

Thank you

The model type and code should be stamped into the blower housing. Look closely at the area on the top where the housing ends over the cylinder head. If not there, check down on the right side, on the flat vertical face of the green housing.

I cant remember ever seeing a B&S engine with no numbers unless it had a shroud replaced.

I had a vanguard engine that had a serial/model number plate that was once riveted on the cover but I never seen it.

Should be stamped on the recoil cover/blower housing as mentioned.

No valve cover on a flathead.

Thanks guys, soon as I when out to look at it I recalled my mini bike days and the numbers were on the right side of the recoil cover/blower housing.

IIRC, the first two numbers of the "code" are the year of manufacture.
