Brighter alternative to 3 bulb **** light?

Not garage but figured I might get some good suggestions here. Have a somewhat small room with a large **** light with 3 bulbs. Put in 100W equivalent LED bulbs and still not great light. Wife likes the ceiling hugging style and open to slightly different shape but ok with what is there. Some spread out light would be much better but not sure how to easily do that other than one or two torchiere style floor lamps which isn't really what is wanted. Any suggestions?

You may want to define what a '**** light' is.
I thought that was pretty common terminology. Not sure what the proper name is... I see someone else beat me to posting a pic.

We found an open fixture that hangs down about 12" at Menards that has a domed frosted glass that I think we can squeeze some slightly larger 150W equivalent bulbs into. Should get some reflection from the ceiling too. The ratings are a bit fuzzy when it gets to LEDs. The overall heat is going to be less but the LED electronics is going to get warm. Some bulbs say ok for enclosed fixtures (many say not for totally enclosed fixtures) but it has to shorten the life. This one is open on the top so I think is ok.

Nope, **** light is not a common term.
Do you mean pendant or chandelier?

Well built bulbs have components that aren’t being used at the edge of their specifications. Cheap stuff has lots of marginal design, with things like resistors dissipating more than the rated wattage, and capacitors at their voltage limit. It doesn’t cost a lot more to build with a little better parts, and the reliability is markedly better.

OP needs consider whether 1 style of light or multiple styles is acceptable.

Recessed gimbels could work but would involve sheetrock for needed cabling to hit each rafter bay containing a fixture.

Track lighting could be used too, to limit the number of hidden connections.

Pendant/chandeliers could work, too.

Probably most important is the final lighting level and purpose. Next up, is the look that you find acceptable both from fixture style and lighting effect. Wall torches can make the place look like a cave while too many gimbels could make it look like a landing strip.

Agree with all that. My work involves high volume products. Years ago a mentor commented somewhat tongue in check that "if it's not on the verge of burning up it's over designed." In well designed and made products there is an effort to design things that have some margin so they aren't actually on the verge of failing but margin does cost money. And when you make a lot of something pennies add up to significant dollars. And heat is typically what determines how long something will function - if it's hotter it will fail quicker. Good designs will last longer than poor designs but heat always shortens life.

Although not **** lights, I replaced something similar with flat panel lights. Those give more light and more spread out light which is usually what you want.

When I was a kid, one of my classmate's father worked for Bendix as some sort of engineer. One day, his mom started driving a new Caddy, instead of an old VW. His father had improved some brake component, saving a couple cents on each unit made. Since there were a couple in just about every vehicle GM made, this added up to a big number, and he'd received a bonus...

Bought these last year and replaced my **** lights with them.Much lower profile( our one ceiling is lower than 7ft) , better light desperation and more light when set to 50% power and much more light when set to 100%.
Can change the light temp too from cool, neutral and warm via remote.
It's been a year and you get still function fine
