Had storm damage. Power company is supposed to come and fix. My question is - will it have to be brought up to code ? Meter is 10 feet from pool

Your POCO does the service riser/mast? Most places an EC has to do it then the POCO just does the cut and reconnect.

They are most likely going to want a proper point of attachment.

+1 that you'll be paying electrician to put mast up through roof with much safer higher and sturdy attachment.

You might consider going BURIED if your PoCo will make you a deal as I personally would not want my electric drop going over a pool . . . or near a pool !! :scared:

Good luck and let us know all your options and costs.

P.S. Any other electrical upgrades you might want to do since you'll be getting electrician out there ?? "Double down" and get all the stuff done at one time if possible . . . like is main panel up-to-date and adequate ??

P.S.S. I just got "smart meter" forced on me this week, as they pulled out the dinosaur aged odometer-style meter from the 50's !! I sure hope this wasn't mainly to "spin faster" and get more $$$ from me going to PoCo. Meter is owned by PoCo and they can change any time they want. Conversely, meter can is my responsibility along with mast and service entry wire.

Thanks for the replies. It is actually my neighbors. His Dad owns the place but lives out of town. This happened Monday, and they were swimming in the pool Tuesday. The drop is laying alongside the top rail of the chain link fence around the pool. I am fed from the same transformer. Someone must have mentioned it cause they have not been in it since
He thinks the power company will just show up and repair. I am thinking they may take him out of service until repaired.

They will just repair, surprised they do the whole thing. If I was called to that I would fix everything, including hooking the power back to the house and reconnecting it to mast. Here the poco is only responsible for hooking it to house and they wouldn't do anything without mast fixed first so you would be without power for a while

Here the power company requires the homeowner to hire an electrician to repair the mast before they will reconnect power.

My previous house I had purchased a house that was condemned. It had overhead service. When I built the new house the power company ran the service underground to the new house. All power lines in the areas are on poles so it doesn't go underground for long. The power company apparently doesn't want to deal with fixing overhead drops so they make all new installs go underground.

In my town an I came across that... yes you would have to bring it up to code. New mast and meter can. Got to have a inspection before I would hook that back up.

As would I, if I was lineman. No Way would I want liability for that. Of course, I do not think many companies care. Shortest amount of time on repair
