Hello all,

I broke two air hammer bits the other day while tickling out some ball joints. It's an older Mac long barrel. It's no slouch, but it's no big nasty either. I've never broken an air hammer bit in the shank before. One was no-name, one was a Mac Tools.

Is how they broke indicative of me doing something wrong?

Like, I said, I've never broken a bit like this before.

My SO guy said that's one of the more common ones to break because if it's not hitting the face just right they snap I don't use mine often and I've had it replaced maybe 5 times in 4 years

Usually that happens when your not holding it tight enough to the surface being chiseled

I broke a cheap import bit on my MAC air hammer when i was really leaning into it and it hammered probably 5 times and popped. I have not broken one since I have not held it that tight again and let the tool do the hammering since I don't use when I need it to hit in 1 specific spot anymore and worried about denting it or anything.

Yeah, I very much agree with you. This happens to me before when I was making a kiddy table.
