One of the 5 garage door springs broke. It's one I almost never open, maybe 5 times in 30 years. Strange the doors opened a lot springs are fine.
Doors tracks go straight up because it's 2 story.
I just got a quote from a guy who installs garage doors, $180, $100 spring + $80 labor.
Years ago I replaced one, but I'm getting older and it wasn't fun back then, and pretty dangerous.
Does that sound like a fair price?

I just paid $150 for a 9' residential spring a year ago. So factor in communist Virginia and I think it is a fair deal. Opening it so infrequently probably caused all kinds of grime buildup and some oxidation that essentially caused it to bind up on you. I lube mine twice a year and they go up and down multiple times every day and they last 8-10 years.

That's what I thought. The guy does it all the time...it would take me all day and easy to get injured!
Yes, Virginia has changed not for the better in lots of ways. People leave a bad place, move here, turn it into where they left!

It's been a few years but I paid $25 for the spring and put it on myself.

$175 for both of mine. Mine uses some heavy duty springs though because in my case, everyone had to order it or go pick it up since it wasn't on their truck. Lifetime springs I guess.

I reckon thats a good deal. I messed with one recently on a 12 foot door, almost fell off the ladder being overly cautious.

Considered most other repair services will charge you $80 just to come out to "take a look", i would say that's a very decent price.

I had mine replaced last summer and it was cad$250 so more or less in the same bracket.
