Broken Snap-On Impact

A friend of mine just gave me this broken Snap-On 1/2" impact after he got a new one, I'd like to have it repaired but, the warranty is up and, I have no idea what's wrong with it, when I shake it something rattles inside it. Does anyone know what could be wrong and, wear I can get some replacement parts for cheap, its a MG725 by the way.

Take it apart and give it a shot. You can always sell it, even in pieces.

Takes 3 minutes to strip it completely bare. No magic inside of it at all. Find out what is broken and order replacement parts or a rebuild kit.

Rebuilds come with a 90 day warranty.... Just to clarify.

you can take it apart to see whats wrong, worst case scenario is assemble it again and send it in through your snap on dealer. I just bought a used one for $135 which feels strong still but when it gets weak I am gonna take it apart and fix whats needed.

Usually something minor or sticking.

I took apart several IM31's and every time it was hammer pins. $8 repair

Broken hammer or hammer cage pin is my guess. I'd be interested if you decide to sell it.

Good luck. New one's are 480 bucks and that one won't bring 100 bucks on ebay. I've been following impacts on there for years.

You can disassemble and inspect the components, and price out the needed parts... The $125 flat fee for a rebuild with warranty is a bargain if too much is trashed inside... Your call, but I have used the rebuild program in the past with good results... I sent in a totally worn out impact wrench and when it was returned; I was holding what appeared to be a totally new impact;;;;;except for two bolts holding the case together that appeared to be from the original impact..... sure got my money's worth on that one.. $125 for a literally new Snap-On impact isn't sounding too terrible??

Why not repair it yourself. It is not that difficult. If you can fix a car, you can fix an impact wrench. Click on "Repair Parts" on link and you could order any parts that need replacement.

I would take it apart and see if you can fix it yourself, if not you can send it in for a flat rate repair. It's a little over a $100 and takes a few weeks, it will look the same but function like new. I sent my MG31 in through my driver, I'm not sure how mail in works.
