I am making some drill bits holders in 2x4's. I would like to label the drill bits size so I can read them. I have a Brother P-Touch and was wondering if anyone had any luck having TZE labels them stick to the 1 1/2 side of a 2x4. The temp in our area usually gets to 115 (F), with 40% humidity in the summer (hotter in a closed garage) and we generally have very little humidity. In the winter, the temps are around 70 (F) and will have humidity that can get up to 100% on rainy days (not very often).
If the labels don't stick directly to the wood, what could I put on the wood to help the label stick (paint, wood sealer, other?)

Thanks

I'd screw a stainless steel, aluminum or brass strip to it, then put the labels on the strip.

too funny, I just made some drill bit holders in the woodshop for my brand point std on one side and metric on the other.

I stuck the label to some card stock, thicker than a manilla folder, thinner than a cereal box. just some package I cut up and turned over.

then I just took a couple brass brads from my perpetually unused tackle box of picture hanging hardware and nailed on the the front and back for each side respectively.

it turned out pretty good, I was just too lazy to glue on the cardboard lable and saw those brass brads sitting there...

Spray paint the 2x4 with some enamel spray paint. Let it dry. The sticker will stick to the high gloss finish of the paint better than the raw wood.

Random dark thought: Doesn't "Brother P. Touch" sound like the name/nickname of a priest who molests kids?

Awesome label printers though..

Thanks everyone, I was aware of the perm. adhesive but wasn't sure if if wood work for unfinished work.
The enamel paint sounds best, as I have a bunch of cans laying around.

Another (non 2x4)tip: attach printed labels to sheet magnet, then cut out and use to list what is in metal drawers.

I use them on file cabinets. When things move, as they invariably do, the magnet follows.
