A company the wife used to work for is going out of business and liquidating all their assets. They had a shop for equipment repair, so when I got word of this, I headed down to see what could be had.

A lot of tools and misc. stuff was already pretty well picked through, but I did come away with a Wilton Tradesman 1765 and a pair of 6 ton jack stands for $75. Only missing one of the pipe jaws, otherwise it's in great shape. I spent about half an hour scrubbing a bit of the grime off of it. It will be replacing a cheap HD 6" vise.

I have the slightly smaller version of that same vice (1755) and I love it as I'm sure you'll love yours!

My neighbor, ~65yrs old, helped me replaced my u-joint on my drive shaft 2 years ago. He used his "big heavy good vise" to press the joint in. I was reluctant but trusted his ability and completed the job.

A year later when I joined this board, I see Wilton vise thread every week that's when I understand the value of it. I asked him several times about his "big heavy good vise" that he got back in the 70s but he didn't even know the brand of it. I went over his garage to check the vise and told him that he has a Wilton vise. He knew it's a good vise but didn't care for the brand.

If you followed Jack Olsen's garage build, he started out with different vise, not Wilton bullet. All of his vise now are all Wilton bullet-style.

That is a steal, very nice! Forget the jackstands, 75 on the vise is sweet as it is. IMHO you can't get any Better then a round spindle Wilton vise. I've been looking for a deal like that for a few years now.

Lot's a suckage going on there.....
Paid lots more for the one like it picked up and thought I had a good deal. Was told the pipe jaws were a weak link on these vises, and just to throw them away and use without. :dunno:

Thanks all. No plans for restoration really, other than replacing the missing pipe jaw. It is in fine shape and I don't mind a little patina on old tools.

Edit: I probably won't use the pipe jaws often anyway, but I'll still replace it. I have a couple of Ridgid tristand chain vises for pipe work.
