I've had this thing forever [B&S No. 13 0-1"], and for whatever reason decided to strip it down and get it back working this weekend. Guess I had too much free time. It's clean now but needs to be reset, only I can't figure it. This mic has some age on it and doesn't seem to adjust like newer models. There is a very small hole on the thimble, between the grip and the ratcheting screw at the very end. I'm guessing it takes a special single-prong spanner (that I ain't got) to adjust. Not too much info on these that I've found so far. Help?

You guessed right about how to adjust the micrometer. You use the spanner to turn the outer sleeve of the thimble relative to the screw.

When you test the accuracy of the micrometer, do you have a "standard" that is 1" in diameter? You adjust it so it is accurate at 0 and 1", or at least consistent at these two places.

Ask any machinists you know if they can help you adjust the micrometer. Not every one knows how to do it, but most do. Every micrometer is shipped with the spanner wrench and most have the standard for testing, so someone should have what you need. B&S micrometers were very common back in the day. The B&S spanner may be the same as the Starrett one, or at least close enough to work.
