I have been reading and lurking around since Feb of this year. This is when the garage reno started. Most of the projects that we have done, have been researched one way or the other here on GJ. We built the house in '91 and it was time for a makeover. Well its finished enough to start posting some of the things we have done along with some information that may help out anyone just starting a garage project. Thanks to all who have posted information on this journal as it has been very helpful.

The first thing we did was replaced the two 8 foot fluorescents with two T5 4 bulb fixtures from J 2 Lighting.

Next was the paint. Filled holes and repaired drywall screws that were popping and then sanded everything. Drywall repair and sanding was all done twice. We used 5 gallons of General Paint Semi Gloss. Covered up Latex eggshell.

Next was the floor. It was in rough shape. We sanded and scraped and then cleaned up everything with a pressure washer. Then we filled in all of the spalling with a product called Cement All. Next we sealed this area with a mixture of weldbond and water. Then we cleaned up and painted the entire floor using an Alkyd floor paint from General Paint.

Cont'd - More pics of the floor.

Next project was the garage door. We replaced the old door with a new 16 x 7 Therma Max from North West Door. Also replaced the old chain drive Craftsman opener with a belt drive from Marantec.

Next project was the Race Deck Tile. We went with a solid graphite border with Alloy Free Flow in the middle and through the opening of the door. I must say that I read enough about this product on this forum and was cautious of the hype. I can now say that I'm very happy with the quality of the tile and the ease of installation. I would also like to say the entire process of selecting the floor, emailing back and forth as well as the phone calls was painless. This is a company that has their customer service figured out.

I like it a lot. My floor is so cracked and uneven I can't really consider what I'll use until I make some repairs.

Just asking: For someone like me who lives where there is no winter snow why would I want the flow through stuff? Or maybe I wouldnt? Just use all solid tiles?

Unrelated, but I'll admit it - I'm nosy. What's in the gym locker looking thing at the back left of your garage?

Dan - I went with the Free Flow tile because of our weather. Now after the floor is finished, I really like the look of the two tile types together. I guess just personal preference more than anything.

My stainless steel cabinet come out of an operating room of an old hospital. I use it for storage.
