Anybody on here have one of the "brute" air compressors? They are made by Briggs and Stratton. I bought mine at walmart a few years back....

http://www.brutepower.com/products/air_compressors/product_information/index.cfm?id=Endeca.53611

For the smaller compressors, it has a single cast iron cylinder that has oil in it, rather than most "oil-less" small compressors.

Anyhow, I think I burnt out the capacitor on it..... when I turn it on, it just buzzes for a few seconds and then the limit switch trips.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Either with this same compressor or similar sizes? A new capacitor is about $20.......

thoughts?

When my old 2hp direct drive CH did this, it was either cold oil or too long of an extension cord. HTH.

for what it's worth, I sourced a similar capacitor from Grainger for $1.15 to try. It worked!! The motor fired right up after I installed it and wired it up. Far cheaper than the $20 plus shipping and handling for the B & S cap.

i used to have well pump that seemed to eat caps. and found a source for almost free just doing my homework. this was way before the internet also which make it really easy to see if someone is gouging you.
