Well we have been in our 1880's farm house for a little over 11 years now and are finally going to start on adding a garage to the house.
You may recall a few years ago we moved the old small carage house off the back of the house and reworked it for a storage shed.

I will be meeting with the building inspector next week to discuss how I will be allowed to break up our "master plan" into sections so the whole project / plans do not have to be done at once.
Steps - hopefully how I see it being done
1) Garage addition
2) Mudroom, bath, pantry & entry at front of garage
3) Kitchen Remodel - Wall removal for addition / kitchen / Mudroom
3) Bonus room / office above garage in attic trusses - entry from upstairs of house
The garage structure will be 40' x 28' w/ attic trusses making a 14'2" x 40' room. Mud Room / Bath / Laundry / pantry area will be 12' x 26' inside that addition against the house.
I will place a sub panel in the build to power the garage addition and kitchen remodel.
I plan to be the GC on the project, Concrete work to be done by myself and Brother In Law, Framing to dried in structure sub'd out, remainder of project will be myself and "helpers".
Getting all my ducks in a row.
Step 1) Building Inspector meeting to ensure steps allowed in "master plan"
Step 2) Permitting
Step 3) Demo existing concrete left from old carage house & entryway
Step 4) In the spring concrete work
Step 5) Framer to erect structure, tyvek & syn felt structure to dry in
Step 6-**) Finish Garage structure myself - where this stops depends on where the Building Inspector says I can break up the "master plan"
Wish me luck in this venture - sure will be nice to have a garage here in Michigan
