Welcome to GJ! I'm in Northern California too (North Bay Area).

What sort of work do you do in your garage? (cars, woodworking, metalworking, DIY?).

Great job on reusing 'free' stuff. Any further plans for your garage?

So how do you re-work a cheap vise? Did your machinist friend just clean up the castings on the outside or make the vise actually work better? I'm curious since I have a cheapo (but heavy) vice as well.

Nice work! This is a more realistic view of how nice shops are built, one baby step at a time :)

As promised a picture of my home built RV gate 10 feet wide. Frame is 2x4 steel reinforced. Posts are 4x4 steel. Post were set in ground 3-1/2 feet with 12 bags of concrete each then driveway poured over. Cedar fence boards finished the front. The palm tree and sun were freebies.

That must have been a pretty beefy fence, looks like you've got some pretty good lumber there.

Great build, keep the pics coming.

Yes unfortunately for him in our tract of homes the fence builders were all about production and not quality. Most of his fence blew down during the last wind storm we had. All of his posts had concrete poured below grade and guess what? They were all rotten at grade.

All the heavy timber is on top. The 5' fence boards are on the bottom. I wish I had time to get it all before his workers hauled it off. I have be researching online on how to build a yard shed. It is amazing what people have built with a few pallets and some fence boards.

Been a while since I have been on but just scored this 4x10 foot pallet for my sons yard shed foundation. Plan is to use this on a pier block base with the fence wood I salvaged pictured in my previous post. I was at the steel supply store today to buy some mesh security screening for a garage man door window. I saw a stack of pallets in the parking lot and asked if I could take one and they said take as many as you want. This was the best one and they even help me load it. Another freebie.

I finally had something done that I have been wanting for years! I had my garage floor epoxy coated. Was not cheap but I love the results.
