Agree with the craftsman pro vise. And agree with the others on the time commitment for the used route. Craigslist has become more of a market place than a online garagesale. There are lots of people that watch like a hawk all day every day and have no otherwise time commitments. It turns into a game of luck, dependent on many factors heavily location..

I looked semi religiously for about 6 months on CL. I wanted a Wilton bullet. But everyone knows the value of these now. I just got the craftsman pro and it's been great. Now I have time back for more pressing matters.

I love that so many here think you can just up and find a old USA vise on CL whenever you want.......psssh.

Not the case, specially dependent on
A) where you are,
B) how much time you have, and
C) how many other GJ members live in your area who collect all the good vices before you can even contact the seller.

There's something about a vise review showing it shattered to pieces that's fairly off-putting.

I didn't even see that. Maybe it was a defective casting? Ive had that vise for 7 years and I use it when I have to really beat on something and I don't want to abuse my good vices. No problems so far.

I echo the opinion of finding an old US vise, on both sides. You can definitely find some gems and "you ****" deals, but it can take time, may need work, and you have to be ready to jump at a moments notice and drive some pretty good distances.

There is always someone that can respond they found a Wilton C2 for $90, but they are few and lucky.

OP, you don't need to explain your reasoning beyond the fact you want a new vise. My vote is for the CM Pro. For the price, I think the receiver of this gift will be very happy.
